I just filled up with gas driving to indiananpolis and as i was driving i noticed my check gauges light and saw that my fuel gauge was on E and it said low fuel. What do i need to fix that?
Mine just did the same thing twice...turn car off and the gauge comes back on.Drive for a while and it goes dead again.
I heard it is the contacts on the fuel level sender and they get sulphur build up.Techron is suppossed to help it clean itself.I just put a bottle in and filled up with Chevron so we'll see.
I have owned my car 9 years and had this happen about 3 times. Filling the tank up has fixed it every time. Things I have done to prevent it, I try to keep the tank greater than half full and have used fuel system cleaner. Some people think this is a mechanical problem some think it is electrical?
Had the same problem with my 99 roadster(16000 miles) Turned out to be the fuel pump in the driver side tank. Cost to repair $1200.00. This is a labor intensive job and will probably have to be done by a chev. dealer. Stopping and restarting worked a few times and then it just continued to show empty/low fuel.

Sounds familiar!!! I am having this problem as we speak. Last week I read an article in a Corvette magazine about this issue. It stated that you need to use the GM Fuel System Cleaner Plus. It's not cheap though. $25 a bottle. I tried it in my last tank full and it did the empty thing for a couple days on and off and today I took a trip to Prescott and it didn't miss a beat. It recommended to use 2 bottles just to make sure. I am putting in the second bottle tomorrow so I will see what happens. So far so good though.
Yes, Techron seems to be the cure Unless there is a different issue, but yours sounds like the normal one
This from a prior post;
Chevron Products Company, a leading provider of engine oils, lubricants, coolants and related services, today introduced a new addition to its industry-leading family of fuel additives. TECHRON(R) Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner, a reformulated version of Chevron's TECHRON(R) Concentrate, is the only fuel additive that provides both unbeatable engine deposit control and protection against harmful sulfurs that can cause fuel gauge sensors to malfunction."
i worked for a chevy dealer in parts for 13 years. it happened to me so i went back and talked to the service warrenty rep there is service bullentin out on the problem its with faulty fuel sending units and there is a redesigned parts, since there is 2 sending units 1 for each tanks. that is covered under gm warranty even if car is out of warranty. if u google c5 fuel sending units problems you can even get a copy from gm to take to dealer just to show that you know of the problem in advanced. i think if you paid to get this fixed at a gm dealership you can get refunded the amount but if repaired at your neighborhood mechanic you might be screwed

Also used Sea Foam. If it is not electrical, then it is a build up on the sensor. I brought my car up from Vegas and noticed it had this problem. Used Sea Foam and filling up at Esso in Canada, after 5+ fill ups, my gage works perfectly again. I believe people swear by Chevron in the States.
