edit: problem is that my rear leaf spring has somehow cracked...
this is the part in question:
i put my rear end up on ramps today so i can squirt the bushings and suspension parts with some grease to do away with the squeaking noises...
on to my question.. has anyone seen the big black bar that connects the rear left suspension to the rear right suspension? well, this is made from WOOD.. doesnt look like wood, but mine has a crack in it and you can clearly tell its wood. 1) y the F would they use wood on a suspension part 2) what is this part called 3) shoiud i replace it 4) how much and where can i find it?
thanks

It sounds like you are describing the sway bars and I can't believe it is made of wood. There is a set of Z06 sway bars for sale in the parts section. I would jump on them and replace your cracked ones ASAP.
PS when you replace them cut them in half and post pictures of them.

that's the spring! made of a composite material sort of like a high tech fiberglass. it must have taken a heck of a shot to break like that. needs to be replaced asap. in the for sale forum would be the place to start looking
Looking at the pictures again, I can't see any breaks. The spring seat on the one side makes it look like a break, but I don't think it is.
You said the car sits straight and it's not like it's low on one side, I think you have a good spring there and maybe jumped to a quick (but wrong) conclusion.
Find someone who is familiar with 'vettes and have him take a look.

RonJ ...
200% there is a fracture/crack.. its not in 2 pieces or anything..its still 1 piece.. but im positive there is a fracture.. i can rub my finger across it, get some splinters in my finger, have some blood gush out, and take a pic.. if that helps..lol
Broken spring, easy fix, 15 min if you have air tools...
Peace
Chip
i can definitely get a hold of some air tools...
could you please explain what the easy fix is? do i need to replace it with a new part, or somehow reinforce this one (perhaps with a metal plate on each side) and put it back in...
if a new part is needed, can you link me to one? thanks chief

I didn't scroll the pictures over far enough to see the fracture ...:o
Have to agree with the other lads, get the spring replaced before it breaks the rest of the way!!!!

Just look to the left.
It's only a couple of bolts, pops right off and the new one will bolt right in. You can not "fix" the broken one.
Just call Gene or post a WTB in the F/S section. A lot of people upgrade this spring so you may find one that someone has sitting in their garage...
