Default Brass Gear Question ..... I know I'll Make it quick

Had that damn grinding noise on the drivers side. Ordered a new gear from Rodney Dickman. Installed it last night, took about an hour for me, I know some said they put it in 20 minutes. Maybe im a lil slow. Anyway I followed the instructions to the T, hooked everything back up. The noise went away, but now the driverside headlight when turned on pops up and down repeatedly, then either stays up or down ?? Did I install wrong? Not sure, I know there are a lot of threads on this because I did search them. If anyone experienced this after installing the brass gear please chime in. Thanks

Based on your symptom, sounds like someone dropped Viagra in the gas tank....

Suggest going back to check your electrical connections -- especially the ground -- and look for a pinched or shorted wire.

Danny,

You may have a problem with the insulators. there was a TSB out for that a few years ago and you need to fit replacement insulating washers. Here's the info:

Number: 00-08-42-002
Subject: Left Headlamp Door Does Not Stay Closed (Shim Headlamp Door Motor/Actuator and Replace Insulators)
Model Year: 2000 Chevrolet Corvette

Condition
Some customers may comment that the left front headlamp door does not remain closed after the headlamps are turned off. Others may comment
that the left headlamp door closes when the headlamps are turned off, but then reopens. In either case, the right headlamp door operates properly.

Correction
Important
The following information applies to the left front headlamp door motor/actuator only. It does not apply to and should not be performed on the right front headlamp door motor/actuator.

Install one washer (2) between the left headlamp door motor/actuator (1) and the mounting bracket (3) at each of the three attaching bolt locations. Also replace the
insulator (4) on each of the two mounting bracket travel stop tabs (5) as shown. For information on headlamp motor/actuator removal, see the Headlamp Motor/Actuator
Replacement procedure in the Lighting sub-section of Body & Accessories in the appropriate Service Manual.

Parts Information
Part Number Description Qty Per Vehicle
11505463 Washer 3
16524060 Insulator 2

My vettes a 98, the motor I have had the removable cover on the motor. Any chance I installed the linkage backwards? I mean it's going up and down no problem, it just doesn't stop when it should. Maybe the stoppers? Going to have get me hands dirty again tonight.

Its alwys possible but it could be a grounding issue. I always start with the easy solution

I checked all the grounds last night. No bad wires or connections. Took the control arm linkage apart and reinstalled it. Now the lamp raises no problem, but when closing pops up and down several times before it's final close?? I think the problem is the motor is not sensing it when it closes? ANY THOUGHTS?? ANYONE?

Sounds like a grounding issue somewhere. As for the lights not wanting to stay down, check to make sure that you didn't get the motor arm BEHIND the stops. It can happen when re-installing them. Also, when re-installing the motors and light, I found it best to completely lower them by hand, turning the **** as far as I could, then re-plug them back up, and turn them on and off. That way, I could see that the motor arm was completely against the stop on the bracket.
HTH.

Did you replace the gear on one side only? If so - you might have a problem with the other side too.
