Leaky butt fix need spring compressor?

Leaky butt fix need spring compressor?
I'm getting conflicting information on how to replace the left diff. side cover o-ring and axle shaft seal. Do I need a spring compressor?

No, you do not need a spring compressor. After you remove the upper control arm bolts, the the half shaft will pull out of the differential. Then you can remove the side cover and replace the o-ring.

Thanks. I've got a GM bulletin that calls for a spring compressor (theirs, of course).
