Is there a light switch for the underhood light? I couldn't find any switch, neither could I find any info about it in the manual. The light does not seem like its blown out also in case its supposed to autoswitch on.
If you're looking to see if it's unplugged make sure you check both plugs. There's one right at the light under the hood liner. Mine was unplugged at both places.
it's built into the lamp assembly. a mercury switch that activates when the hood opens
You are correct its a switch built into the lamp assembly. But I don't think it's a mercury switch, because if you remove the light from the hood and move it like it would be moving as if you were opening or closing the hood you can hear clicking (contacts opening and closing).
I removed mine to replace the #561 bulb and replace it with a 9 LED setup I bought from autolumination.com. I had to solder it in place because of the way the wire hooks are on the LED assembly. When installed they were at a 90 degree angle shining sideways instead of out.

you are correct, no mercury. I would imagine the EPA had something to do with that. It looks like the method is a sliding contact like a ball bearing or such. I wonder if the light comes on during a hard stop.
