Default 305's too wide?

OK, I have been searching this site for new tires over the last two weeks - I found TWO brands I like but I still cannot decide on the sizes. I DONT want the tires to stick out past the tops of the fenders.

This is what I am lookin at right now: CCW 505a 18x9.5(10?) F and 19x11 R with 275/35/18 and 305/30/19.

Or should I go with 265/35/18 and 285/35/19? And maybe with 19x10 rears??

It seems many members claim the 305's sticks out an inch or so (depending on tire brand) and other say they dont (some with exact tires and rims). So it is very confusing.

Please help. I dont want to order a tire too large (or even too small) and be unhappy (like the 2 thread I found tonight).

Thanks.

In the rears, I have CCW SP500 19X11.5 with 305 tires. In my opinion, they don't look too wide, they look great. They don't stick out too far at all for me, but on my Z, the brake ducting had to come out to accomodate the deeper wheel.

Here's an rear angled view if this helps,

Forgot to mention... my fronts are 18X10.

If the rear is 64mm than the 305's will work great

Peace

I had 305's on 18's for about a year. They looked/worked fine (no rubbing). Now I have 305's on 20's and like them just as much. No issues or other mods required. You'll be glad you got the wider rears (versus 285's/295's that is). Good luck!

So does CCW put a little more back spacing to offset the wider tire? If so by how much? I would think I could not be much more than 1/2 due to clearance issues.

Z06ster - your car looks great! I would love to see some pics up close showing the tire vs. fender.

The tire will fit fine on a 19x11 with 63-64mm offset, no further adjustments need to be made...

Peace

One thing to remember is that on stock rims you would be hard pressed to get the rubber to stick out past the fender. In most cases it is the rim that causes this. Your talking about a 10-20mm difference in width. So even if you are 20mm wider you figure it might extend out 10mm further on each side compared to your current tire.

The other thing to remember is that you won't always get the exact width you are putting on. Rim width has a factor in it too. You could have the same size tire on a 8" wide rim and a 12" wide rim and obviously the one on the 12" wide rim will be wider, even though the tire size is the same.

Now the 315's must stick out past the fender - they are at least half inch wider than the 305's.

So if I go with the 18x9.5 front and 19x11 rear ccw 505a with 275/35/18 front and 305/30/19 rear they will be under the fenders (except for maybe 10mm in the rear) and they will look right (sidewalls look same height to rim)?

What tires are you all running? I am looking at the Nitto Invo due to price and since my car is a weekend only and fair weather only kind of ride.

That set up will be pretty much flush with the edge of wheel well

A 265/35/18 will be closer on the side wall height to the 305/30/19

Peace

It dont look like the 265 vs 275 would be much difference (.4 inch) can you tell by looking at the sidewalls? Would i be better off with 265's?

So the perfect set up would be 265 F and 305 R?

Thanks.

Correct, the difference is small.

If you have bad roads, a 275 may be better (save you from a bent rim) but if your roads are decent, than the the 265 will match the side wall of the 305 better

I run 305s up front and they dont stick out, but then again I have -2.5* camber too.

18x305s in back are just fine, but you should really have about -1.0* of camber in back too.

I dont think I would run anything wider then 305 on the rear for street tires. Too much tramiling with anything larger, 315s, 325s, 335s or 345s

an 18x285 front and 18x305 rear is a very good combo for performance and handling.

GOOD LUCK

I have 265/35 & 305/30/19 Michelin PS2's on 18x9.5 59mm offset & 19x11 65mm offset wheels. As you can see, the front sidewall is slightly taller than the rear tire sidewall.

As stated, a wider wheel will increase the section width. An 11.5 wheel would be too wide for the rear tire to tuck in.

Russ, Does your rear tire stick out past the top of the fender?

I thought the 275's were taller and the 265's were very close to the same sidewall height as the 305's.
