It seems like many people here feel that the frame savers are a must have, and I can see a good reason for them. I started looking around and I saw a number of different kinds. It appears like everyone makes their own version to sell. I was just wondering if anyone could give me their opinions on a few of the ones that I found. Prices range from $40 to $80 but I am not sure if it is simply a "get what you pay for" type of thing. Some definitely look more solid than others, but looks aren't everything.
double wheels. one on each side of the frame balances the torque on the frame during the impact event.
I missjudged an approach to a parking lot and the Fattmomma on the right side made contact. instead of the usual scccrrrrape there was just a slight thud. quite a difference
I am thinking about ordering the Fat Daddy's. I have not taken receipt of my vette yet, dealer is still touching a few things up (ARGH!) but I know it needs the wheels. I wish I knew if it had the frame savers. If not I would order them too and save the shipping. Oh well...
I didn't want to drill my frame so I bought the ones that just slip over. I'm fairly happy with them. If you hit something hard enough the skid plate will bend, wheel or not. I usually rub going up my driveway so these take the abuse.
I went with the A&A frame savers and rocker rails a good few years ago
Good product and good price and I have no complaints.
Elite Engineering sell a great product too.
Chip at CCA sells the fat mamas and also a rocker rail that has an inset to allow you to fit jacking pucks. Even though you can jack onto the A&A rails, the CCA rails are better desgned and Chip is a great Forum vendor.
