Of course I may be biased since usually while accelerating my uncontrollable wide grin pulls my fat cheeks backwards, which in turn squeeze my outer ear into an ellipse. ;)
Any particular gear / RPM range that this happens for you?
My car definetly knocks (classic pinging/detonation sound) while accelerating with light load from 2K to 3K - no other place. It is 100% stock. I can only get 91 octance CA gas.
well does your car consume oil? you do know that oil will lower the flash point of gasoline wich will cause preignition. This is a common problem with cars that burn oil they get alot of knock retard. If you are burning oil get your car to the dealer and have it fixed.
I've run both LS1 and LS6 engines on 87 PON regular grade fuel in Southern California and never heard any audible detonation. The knock sensors should detect light detonation before you can hear it and switch to a correct ignition advance map for whatever grade of fuel you are using.
Go talk to your service advisor and ask him to read out any codes that might be present. Light detonation at part throttle is probably not going to hurt anything, but you might have an out of spec component in your engine management system.
zo6 rules..........where are you??.........you're Knocking may not be due to fuel at ALL.........pls respond with the TYPE & Location of the noise/s..........dull, sharp metallic/ clicking?............
It could be many things......not just pinging......especially if it is louder the faster you go........
I am in california where you could only get 91 octane and its not only my car a friend of mine has a z06 and he hadn't noticed it till I pointed it out. It happens on any given rpm if you step on the gas and the gearing is not at its full load. I think it comes from the valves compartment but I am not 100% sure about. It does sound like classic pinging. It is not that loud either.
My 2000 Convertible knocked at wot near red line, the dealer couldnt hear it - what a surprise. I believe it was caused by the k&N setup I used with the cold screens replacing the solid fog light panels. I think I was giving the engine more air than the program was set for and that could cause the engine to run lean. Lean mixture could easily cause the detonation. Have you changed anything on your car ? :nono:
