Default TPMS sensors

Getting ready to replace OEM tires on my 2000, and plan to replace TPMS sensors at the same time. Has anyone purchased/used the sensors Costco sells? They're Schrader units; $45 ea. My Chevy dealer wants $177 ea. for OEM units. For all I know, Shrader may be the mfc. for the OEM units. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with the Costco units. Thanks

I too have my doubts. Two differrent types of tire sensors were used during the C5 years - type one for model years 1997 though 2000 and type two for model years 2001 through 2004. The two types are not interchangeable and one will need to purchase the correct type for their model year.

Check with Gene Cully at the GM Parts House, a Forum supporting vendor. He can help you with the right GM sensors. See his thread below for TPS pricing:

I'm pretty certain AC Delco make the OEM TPSs.

The units are not just specific to the car they vary with the year. They operate at specific frequencies tuned to the RFA. Dont risk it.

I'd stick with genuine GM sensors - try Gene at gmpartshouse.com. He usually has about the best prices on parts.

Despite what I just said I just took a look at the TPSs I have in the tool box for my 02.

The package is an AC Delco package but they're built by Schrader Bridgeport in the UK:

FCC ID MRXTG224AM01

GM Part #2577396

The catch is you have an 00 so they are the older sensors which are different to the ones I have. You'll need to find somone who can check the old TPSs.

It may even work!!

I have a set of sensors here for the 97 -2000 C5s that I am installing new batteries in. It says:

FCC ID AB02101T
CANADA: 218 102 189
MADE IN UK
PAT PENDING
SCHRADER-BRIDGEPORT
GM part number: 1628541

I expect this company makes TPS for various manufacturers per their individual design specifications. I would find it surprising if they were compatible. Then ask yourself this, how long have those sensors been sitting on the shelf? I bet they are several years old already. That is why I offer battery replacement services for forum members. PM me if you want the details, but I can save you more than what Costco can.

Default TPMS sensors

Schrader-Bridgeport is the manufacturer of the sensors Costco installs. If I understand dobie willie's msg., he's changing batteries in a set of sensors made by Schrader-Bridgeport for GM, for the 97-00 Corvette. What's the concern about buying them at discount from Costco? I must be missing something. It will be easy enough to check mfc. date if there's a concern about battery age. Costco is much too big an operation for Schrader-Bridgeport to risk selling them "old" merchandise.

Default Vettman's 1976 F350

This will be my last post on this subject. I had a long chat with a technical manager at Schrader-Bridgeport last evening re. Costco's recent decision to sell TPMS sensors as part of their tire operation. He confirmed that Costco will have sensors for the Corvette; for the 97-00 model years, the part number is 28006. Schrader-Bridgeport manufacturers the majority of OEM TPMS sensors; they make the GM sensors. He said only difference with the 28006 sensor and the OEM will be the color. The replacement will be a reddish-orange. It will come with mounting nut (important to tighten to 62 inch-lbs), and valve stem cap. I asked him how "fresh" the units would be, and he said they would be new/recently manufactured. He also said the batteries go into a "sleep" mode when not in use, e.g., while resting on a shelf, so they stay "fresh" for a long time. He was probably blowing a little smoke here, but I see no reason to doubt these sensors would achieve Schrader's advertised 7-10 yrs, or 100K-mile service life. Personally, I'll be buying these at Costco--$47 ea. vs $177 at the dealer is a no brainer.

Dont take offence

What the guy said is true. the batteries only run when the TPS is active on the wheel hence the long shelf life.

I'd say it looks like you may have found a good alternative source for these parts that I'd not heard of and it could help out a lot of people here. The only issue is matching up the ones on sale at Costco with the models. the old sensors are different to the newer ones. 28006 is a Costco or SB part # not GM.

Good job

Default TPMS sensors

Guess I lied about previous post being my last on this subj., but I have answers for a couple of questions that were recently posted. The 28006 part no. is a Schrader-Bridgeport (SB) number. It crosses to the GM OE 10438853. The SB sensor number for 2001 Vettes is 20117, and it crosses to the GM OE 25773946 sensor. All SB TPMS sensors are "OE validated" for quality and compatiblity.

RE. availability at Costco--when I was in their tire shop here in Northern VA (W. Ox Rd. location), I believe the mgr. said he had one of the 28006 sensors; he said he could order some for me. This facility did have the SB sensor cabinet mounted, and they had quite a selection of sensors on hand. I asked about ones for my 2002 Caddy, and they were in stock.

FWIW: I own no Costco stock, and neither I, nor any of my relatives work there. I'm just passing along some info that I thought might be of interest to some of you. This site remains an invaluable source of information for me, and I've monitored it pretty closely for almost 8 yrs now. Keep up the good work, all you "posters".
