They are both great cars-especially if you do trips, the C5 is roomier, faster, a little better mileage. Around town it's still hard to beat a C4. 22 large is a little high for the C4, but you never know...

I would keep your current Corvette.

I'd prefer a C5 over a C4. However, if I owned a '96 with 17k miles on it and it was paid off, then I'd probably just keep it, so long as I was happy with the car.

If you've owned the C4 for 4 years and it only has 17k miles, then it sounds like your Corvette is rarely driven...and probably quite perfect. I'd save my money, enjoy your C4 for another three or four years and then purchase a used C6. Used '05 Corvettes are already in the low $30k range around here in three or four years they'll be solidly in the $20k range.

You need to speak with the lines of late C4 owners with very low miles who think their cars are "show winners" who can't give their cars away. You are completely delusional if you think there's anyone left on this planet that would pay $22k for it.

Let me know who buys your car for 22k. I've got some stuff I need to sell.

i was in the very same position you are in - C4s are nice - like all vettes there is something that sits them apart from other U.S. sports cars - but goin to the C5 was a difference - a nice big difference.

I traded my '93 C4 for this '01 C5. It was tough to do since I had invested so much time, money, blood and tears into nearly restoring it to factory condition (almost).

But I couldn't pay for my daughter a new car (Cobalt) and manage two Vettes at the same time. So I elected to go that route. The C5 is an awesome improvement over the 4th generation but they are still nice Vettes.

If your joking ha ha, if your serious I would suggest doing research on the development of the C5.

A few differences, I'm sure others will add to the list....

Hydro formed frame
Balsa wood embedded in fiberglass floors
Rear mounted transmission
Torque tube
LS1 engine
Active handling system
HUD
Attention to better design to reduce and eliminate rattles
Split gas tank, fuels from the side
Trunk
Significantly larger and improved brake system
First fully tested design in a wind tunnel resulting in a very low coefficient of drag
New seat design
New on-board computer system design
All body parts are now SMC similar to C4 hood
Redesign to make it wider longer greater comfort near 1 g skid pad
Completely designed with modern engineering technologies and CAD
(remember the C4 design started in the late 70's)

So just to name a few...
