food for thought in AK
haha, get out! I'm in Anchorage. There's definately good money in AK to be made. Oil companies up here are usually looking for people, but those are hard to get into. I know people who have been trying to get in on oil for years. IBEW is a good one up here, too. Friend of mine left where we worked together to go to the IBEW. I'm content where i'm at for now and i'm with a solid company that should be able to weather the storm. I won't get rich where i'm at, but i'm staying put for the time being.
To the OP, it sucks now, like i said a few posts up, i've been through it. I felt like crap. Lost my job, my apt, my gf at the time left me a month earlier. lol. I coulda wrote a country song! Try not to worry about it too much. In a few years, it'll be behind you and you can laugh at it. You'll get used to buying stuff with cash, i sure did! I've bought another car, on credit, a few years ago. I also got it payed off in less than 3 years! No worries.
The company I worked for was trying to force me to relocate, I could either move or take a lay off. I took the lay off--that was 3 months ago. I was fortunate to have my vett paid off. I was beginning to worry about a job, today I recieved 2 calls for job interviews. Keep your head up, everybody here has had hard times before. You can overcome this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Youre young...you have plenty of time to recover if youre a hard worker...
I lost everything in this picture in my 1989 divorce when I was 32....
Im 51 now, it only took 20 years...but with lots of determination, hard work, and marrying the "right" woman I recovered....Dont have a big house anymore, but then again, I dont want one...Smaller house makes it easier to catch the wifey

Where do you fit all those vettes and trucks at?!!

You cant see the garage space that well in the pics....Two Vettes (C6Z and 99 Vert) and my Harley fit in the 24x24 garage visible in the pic of the house....My SSR fits in another garage that you can barely see in the pic (hidden behind tree in front yard)...I keep my third Vette (99 coupe) in storage, but I drive it at least once a month.....Until recently, our DDs (wifeys 2002 Monte SS and my 4x4) sat outside, but Im in the process of building a carport in front of the 24x24 garage for them..When finished, it will have a Victorian decorative moulding and railing around the top....It will also have a beadboard ceiling to match the front and back porches..I also used Victorian pillars on the carport to match the porches...
My plan is to eventually build one more one car garage between the 24x24 and the SSR garage for my other Vette so I wont have to keep it in storage across town.......
Before the carport...
SSR garage...(overhead door faces the alley)
Back porch...

THis man is losing his car and you want too know where to get one at half price because they might sell his for that..............
This man???...Sounds to me it's a college kid choosing between the car and a college education....Im sure his college schedule limits his employment options.......Hopefully, the college education will pay off in the long run and he'll be able to buy another Corvette, maybe two

...People need to learn that things like big houses, Corvettes, big-screen TVs and such are REWARDS for hard work/good choices/wise planning. They're not "must-haves" or entitlements. Hard work begets success, and success begets the rewards. It's a fool's game to expect to enjoy the rewards without first earning them...
Amen. I'm surprised no one else responded to your post. When I was in my 20's (career not yet established), I drove used cars because I couldn't afford anything nice. I was comfortable, always employed, but I didn't have much. As I got into my 30s my career got going and things started to fall into place. My wife and I bought a nice home and I bought my first new vehicle- a truck of course. A little later I rewarded myself with my first toy (a new Z28) and then picked up my C5 a year ago. Life is finally good. You guys just starting out, get your training or your education and work hard. One day the rewards will come.

Indeed....and when you decide to marry...make sure it's to the right person...or watch it all go BYE-BYE...then you get to start all over again

The engine in my avatar/sig was fully polished (by me, I'll never take that project on again)... twin turbo'd and it rested in a cherry '02 Firehawk. It was the pinnacle of my hobby at the time... One word explains the rest.... Divorce.
Perhaps (I read in an earlier post) that you aren't entitled to a Corvette, nice house, or big screen tv.... but if you are THAT person that get's the salary+++ you can do what you want... even at age 28.
I don't HAVE to have a '67 air coupe...but life is short. Live now.
To the original poster.... a C5 is a cheap car (in today's market) so paying for one is not much worse than a honda accord, I hope you can find a place that will help finance you soon, get what you want, pay the high interest as you build good car credit again asap....enjoy it, because you never know when your last day WILL come.

Sux doesnt it???....When I met my current wifey in 1993 I told her I absolutely refused to get married unless we had been together for at least 10 years (My first marriage lasted 7 years, 2nd one 2 years)...Marriage scared the SHEIT outta me and I had vowed to NEVER do it again.....She paid the test of time...In 2003 she held me to my word and we tied the knot.....Too bad I didnt marry this one back when I married the first one in 1981...Problem is, this one was only 16 years old in 1981
I have to agree some other people in that we as a nation have to start looking to save more and spend less for situations like this. I do feel bad about someone loosing their transportation, but there are others who are without a job but did not put themselves into such a harsh position by watching their finances better. This is one thing that our school system along with parents need to do a better job teaching our youth and retraining the rest of America.
Don't spend what you don't have, at least if you do then make sure you are also saving something for the rainy days that may come your way.
No school = c5
School = no c5
After school = C6 ZR1
Boy, do you have BIG dreams - right off the bat a C6 ZR1 - I assume you mean not right after graduation? What about those student loans that will haunt you for at least 10yrs or so?

Boy aint that the truth.....I have friends that have seriously wondered if they made the right decision by going to college....Many of them arent even working in the field they earned their degrees in, earning nowhere near what they thought they would, and STILL repaying student loans...
I never went to college, started working full-time at 16 and have never looked back.....Ive made some mistakes with women over the years that have set me back financially a time or two, but I kept my nose to the grindstone and have recovered nicely....Personally, I think a strong work ethic will get you just as far as a degree, if not further....One thing is for sure, college, without a strong work ethic, is pi$$in' in the wind!!!JMO
