My neighborhood (Westchester County, NY) has a heavy deer population and unfortunately today I decided to take my 04 to work. I saw the deer as it jumped through the air, jacked on the brakes and slowed significantly before I hit him. The deer slide up the hood to the windshield and rolled down. To my amazement, the only damage seems to be to the right front headlight. The bumper has some straches where his hoof hit as he attempted to run off the bumber & hood. My question is, the headlight doesnt close all of the way, maybe 95% and is a bit out of line. I moved it back into place, seems to be decent but not perfect. If it had to be replaced, any idea on the cost? I am sure the bumper will need some fresh paint. I lost but later recoved my front license plate and well as license plate surround. That seems to have taken the worst of it but is an easy fix at $70, new. Now I need to find a decent repair shop to have them look everything over and then the decision to go through insurance or not.
You can check with Gene at the parts warehouse to see what all those headlight parts would cost. Probably two to four hundred bucks. Not sure if you'll need a new motor. Sounds like something got bent pretty good, though. You got lucky. Some folks who've hit deer on this forum have had significantly more damage!
The deer was twitching in the road. I called the local police to maybe put it out of its misery. When I came back in 10 minutes, the deer was gone. I think it was phased but not dead and able to make it off into the woods.
When you talk to your insurance company, be sure to say,"the deer ran into you" not that you hit it. That way it will go against your comprehensive ie. no deductable, verses your collision with a deductable.

Do you have an accident report showing that you hit a deer? If so then the accident is covered under your comprehensive insurance and will not count toward raising your insurance rate. Been through this a couple of times with deer and other items that you encounter along the road. Don't be afraid of using your insurance. You already paid for it.
