Default General Maintenance

Guys:

I was just wondering for those of you who are mechanically inclined. What maintenance would you be doing on my case.

I have a stock 2001 Z06 with 16k miles that I have owned since 04 (6k miles). Other then regular oil changes and a tranny flush two years ago.....I haven't done anything else. I baby the car as you can see by the mileage and I don't track it......yet. I am on the original F1's and have no issues. But I don't want any either. Any input on general preventative maintenance (ie timing belt, tune-up...etc) would be great.

Change out your clutch fluid. VERY easy to do (even I can do it). Do a search. You'll see how your clutch pedal is much smoother afterwards. Not sure about other fluids though. Your mileage is pretty low but I'm sure others will know much more about this than me....

I got mine at 12K and have 14K on it now.

I plan to do a coolant change (every 5 years) and a brake fluid change/bleed (every 2 years minimum) in addition to checking tranny and differential fluid levels here very shortly. I changed my clutch fluid the second day I got it but I didn't bleed it so whatever is in the lines I am sure is still nasty so it wouldn't hurt to bleed it but I haven't looked into that yet. I also put new LS2 valvesprings in it with help of a mechanic buddy of mine as mine is an 03- you should be fine with your 01.

Just got my hockey pucks so it all begins now ;-)

It doesn't have a timing belt so you don't have to worry about that problem. There really isn't much you need to do. The tranny flush was probably an overkill from a maintenance standpoint. You need to change oil at least once per year, change the coolant at 5 year intervals, flush the brake fluid at 2 year intervals. Other than a few small lubrication items like door hinges, weatherstrip, etc. that is about all you need to do. Since your car is now 8 model years old it probably is a good time to consider replacing the tires. Although they may look OK they are very close to max age for tires. Check the manufacturing date on the tires, however, if they are the original tires you seriously need to consider replacing them or keep your highway speeds well below the speed limit.

I chng the O&F every 3k and turkey baster the Brake & Clutch fluid at the same time. Also clean the VR filter too!

I also chng the Trans,Diff,Coolant & Power fluids every year.Fluids are still fairly cheap and my labor is free.
