Well I opened up My door today and noticed on the door where it has the VIN, and the tire pressure and all. It says the Z06 weighs a little over 3,500 lbs. It says frnt 1,7xx, rear 1,8xx. I thought it weighed just over 3,000 lbs? Anyone know whats up? Are ours cars really that fat. 02 z06 by the way stock pretty much
I think you may be looking at the GVWR? (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating). That, I believe, is the maximum weight the car is rated for. So, it would likely include driver, passenger, and possibly a luggage and/or fuel allowance. The vehicle itself should be something like 3,115 pounds. I think mine is.
Like with airplanes: Our 737's have the equivalent of a GVWR, called Max Gross Takeoff Weight, which for us is 119,500 lbs. The plane itself only weighs 65,668 pounds.
OK, i just copied this from the Z06 Sticky at the top of this forum, But it doesn't address the configuration the car was weighed in: full tank or empty tank? I'm assuming it was weighed with all fluids topped off to spec, and in a completely stock setup.
"On the Z06 only, both the windshield and backlite have been thinned to save weight. But resistance to stone chipping has been maintained. A total of 5.7 pounds was eliminated. There is cabin quietness as a result. But in a car like the Z06, we don't think anyone will care. Reducing the Z06's overall weight, boosting its power output by 40 hp, and broadening its operating range, made a significant improvement in the car's power-to-weight ratio. All told, Z06 is the lightest Corvette 38 pounds lighter than the former hardtop, 99 pounds lighter than the 2001 coupe and 95 pounds lighter than the 2001 convertible at just 3115 pounds. And remember, it's all about power-to-weight ratio."
