I had mine swapped out the other day and watched him do it, and as long as you dont turn the key on while you are doing it, it shouldnt.
2 torx screws on the back of the wheel to remove the airbag, then remove the plug and ground, then steering wheel puller to pull it off the column.

I also removed the SDM fuse in the passenger side foot well fuse panel while removing/installing the airbag as a secondary precaution...

So the service manager says that he will have to reset the code after the install, could this possibly mess up my tune or would that be unrelated?

Re-setting codes can be done through the DIC. As long as they don't flash the PCM, your tune should be fine.

Changed mine out last year. No problems at all. Helped to have the GM steering wheel puller but other than that nothing special needed and no codes to worry about (I went with a factory type steering wheel so the airbag was reinstalled). I think there will be codes if you plan to not install the airbag on the new wheel.

Got a Vette Essentials wheel so I'll be keeping the airbag. I'm just gonna take it to the stealership, I don't have the time or the right tools right now..
