LS-1 double overhead cam engine?
Supposedly these were made for some kind of one-off racing class in a Cobra body, and supposedly GM built them.
I have a chance to buy one cheap, and I need whatever info I can find.
Thanks, Dave

If it was a dual overhead cam theres no way it would be an LS1 black.

The LT5 used in the '90 - '91 ZR1 is a double overhead cam motor. Designed by Lotus and manufactured and assembled by Mercury Marine.

I always thought the ZR1 was a 4 cam 32 valve motor.

It is. ('90-'95 ZR1 we're talking about here...)
If you have a V engine with two heads, 4 cam and double overhead cam are synonymous. (2 overhead cams per head x 2 heads = 4 cams total)

You're both right. It was a 4 cam, 32 valve motor designed by Lotus and manufactured by Mercury Marine.
Back on topic, I did hear rumors about a 4 valve head for LS motors, but never saw any pics or heard anything more about them. Anybody know if some were ever made?

Yes it is.
There is also a company that makes 32 valve heads for the LSx block.

The engine is new, has heads like ARAO engineering shows on their site, and I can buy it for 2K. I am still looking for more info if anyone has it.

why can you buy it so cheap, and what the hell are you waiting for?
If I could buy those heads alone for $2k I would do it in a minute and to hell with what the rest of it is.

The guy had 3 of them, and has only one left. He sold the other 2 for 5K each, but is really having $ problems and I'm in the right place/right time for a change. I'm usually 10 minutes late on things like this.

According to the website posted above, the heads alone sell for $7500. I would be EXTREMELY skeptical of this deal on a built engine with those heads for $2k. Unless it's stolen, it just doesn't make sense, even in this economy.

Got any pics? Almost sound like an Olds Aurora (Racing?) engine.

You guessed it! I went by to see it and it is a modified L47. 320hp. Oh well. Don't think I'll bother.
