Default Another winterizing question

This is my first winter storing my 2000 C5. I've got the garage flooring on my concrete floor (garage not heated, and located in Canada), I plan on filling her up and adding stablizer, cracking the windows slightly so the interior can breath, covering exhaust inlets, I plan on covering her with an indoor cover after waxig her down. I purchased a CTEK charger to keep my Optima red top battery charged up.
1)I did plan on keeping the battery connected in the car with the CTEK hooked up. I have seen others indicate that it is ok to leave the battery in the car but you should disconnect the battery then put the charger on it. Can I not leave the battery in the car connected with the CTEK charger on it?
2)I have also read that you should change the oil before storing, I planned on changing it in the spring, after storage, so it would be fresh and ready to go for the summer. Why would you want to change it before storage?
Thanks, your help is appreciated.

Rob

You can disconnect the battery and/or remove the battery from the engine compartment. Some feel it's then not necessary to maintain it on a float charger. If your storage area is prone to freezing, it might be best to completely remove it from the car.
I leave my battery in the car and maintain it with a BATTERY TENDER. Either way is up to you. It might depend on whether you think you'll have an opportunity to drive it at all. Or, if you plan to do any upgrades that would require the battery installed.
Your CTEK is completely safe to leave attached for the winter storage months.
STA-BIL is a good idea as well as covering up any potential access points for rodents. The cover is a good idea after a polish or wax.
You might consider something under the tires...carpet or specific tire "cushions" but it is not really necessary with steel belted tires. Again, it might depend on whether you have an opportunity to drive the vehicle.
If your concrete is not fully cured or you've seen evidence of moisture seepage during winter storage, put some cardboard or carpet beneath the car to reduce moisture reaching the undercarriage. Someone here not long ago reported mold in his car. Maybe, consider some type of dehumidifier product.
Some prefer to change their oil/filter before winter storage. I do not. Weather permitting, I try to take my car out for 30-45 minutes to fully lubricate everything. Allowing it to just idle periodically isn't good.
So, if you intend to take it out, there's no sense in changing oil/filter IMO. Wait until spring.
If you don't intend to take the car out for a winter spin, then changing oil is entirely up to the owner. Personally, I religiously follow the DIC for recommended oil changes by %, but I don't change it every year as an alternative.
If in doubt, have the oil analyzed. It's a waste of (my money/my oil) to change it once a year if I've only driven 1,000 miles.
