Neat set of pictures.... I think I'll get some shots with the gas prices at $2.xx currently... I'm wondering what things will be like 10-15 years from now.
I bet you've written a speeding ticket or two in your time..
What's the fastest you've written a ticket (or taken someone to jail) for?
Yeah, I did a stint in the traffic unit years ago, but it just wasnt for me...I have too heavy of a foot...not in town, but on the open road...and believe it or not I do get the occasional speeding ticket..(just got one last week in fact from the Colorado State Patrol...78/60).....I never flash my badge..I dont even carry one off-duty...just official ID....Besides, the badge isnt a speeding permit...You play you pay I say...Lotsa off-duty cops would "badge" me back in my traffic days.......I never wrote them, but I didnt respect it...
My rule of thumb back in my traffic days was stop at 10 over and write at 15 over unless they had an emergency....Of course our speed limit is 30mph in town, so if I wrote you a ticket you were doing at least 45 in a 30.....I do recall nabbing a fellow in a VERY nice Camaro one night...80+mph thru town...I chased him all the way to the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park (www.royalgorgebridge.com) 8 miles west of town before he stacked it up into the Park gates (the bridge was closed) ...He was DUI....Sorry, NO verbal warnings for DUI...I dont care how cool your car is

Great reflection on then and now.
I can go back about 8 years further. You are correct, gas at $0.51 a gallon is right in line with the mid $2's we are seeing now. In fact adjusting for inflation it's probably a better deal right now. Back in the day it cost me about $7.50 to fill up my 63 Buick Lesabre Convertible. (15 Gallons) At $7.50 that was about 6% of my weekly gross pay. Today that same 15 gallons @$2.59 (price for reg right now) is $38.85 and let's just say it is no where near 6% of my pay.
Nice pictures Dan. I know more about you than I know most of me ex-girlfriends! Thanks for sharing...time sure goes by fast.
Youre not kidding it does...I VIVIDLY recall taking that pic back in 74...It's almost like it was a scant five years ago....I cant believe it's been 34 years....Hell, I have my 35 year class reunion coming up in a couple years...I dont know how that works since Im still about 25
I doubt anyone will recognize me without all the hair I had back then
Seriously though...I wouldnt go back to that age if you paid me....Hell, I feel better at 51 than I did at 31....financially, emotionally and physically, even though I have high blood pressure now (thanks to my dad's hereditary high BP)...'course I was going thru that BAD divorce at 31, and that was enough to kill anyone's spirit

This would be a great concept for a super cool thread...
Taking pictures of cars in the identical location but decades apart...
Wonder if anyone else could post pics' following the same idea !!
I got this idea from a Colorado photographer named John Fielder...In 1870 a Colorado photographer named William Jackson took a myriad of pictures all over Colorado and compiled them into a book....In 2000 John Fielder went to the EXACT same locations and took the pics again...It's absolutely AMAZING to see the difference (yet the similarities) between the 130 year old pics Jackson took and the recent ones Fielder took...I bought one of the books, which show side by side comparisons from 1870 to 2000....My hometowns Main Street is even featured in the book.....Check it out on his website......There are two editions...a 200+ page monster for $100, and a smaller, more recent, version for $45.....Mine is a great conversation piece that has a permanent home on my coffee table....

Gas at 54.9 a gallon.... OK I'll make you feel a little younger, I remember regular gas at 24.9 a gallon...... I wasn't driving then.... But I remember going with my Dad to get gas and remember how much it was. Heck I remember my Dad giving me a dollar and sending me to the corner store for smokes for him. I would get 3 packs of smokes and get change.....
