The Z has better suspension and brakes. Also a cool little z06 sticker!

the Z is much more of a no-compromise sports car. It has hard edges and an anti-social element. It's for serious drivers versus cruisers. The C5 is a world class sports car, the Z06 is a legitimate super car.

Go test drive one. That will answer all of your questions.

Vegas-
According to the 2002 Corvette brochure, here are the differences:
Engine:
exclusive cylinder heads, special light weight valve train, camshaft, intake, pcv system, enhanced LS6 engine block. 405 hp, 400 lb. ft. torque., special air filter box and MAF sensor

Driveline:
Special high strength driveshaft, heavy duty clutch, special gearing in the 6-speed man. gearbox, 3:42 anti-spin diff with shot-peened ring gear, special front brake pads, special Z06-only suspension (springs, roll bars, end links, tire alignment), "trans overtemp" warning light, wider wheels w/ wider non-runflat Eagle F1 Supercar tires

Other stuff:
Front air inlet screens, rear brake cooling ducts, specific instrument cluster, standard HUD, titanium exahust sustem with no "pup" cats, special thinner window/windshield glass to reduce wieght.

I think that's about it. Pretty significant differences. Also, the Z06 is a fixed-roof copue only, no targa tops or convertibles.

Here is a link to the Chevy website with a head to head between Z06 and regular C5 specs:

Mandatory reading on the 2001 LS6 engine:

http://www.idavette.net/hibz06/index.htm

Enhancments in the 2002 Z06 model:
http://www.c5registry.com/2k2z06/index.htm

When you read these, you'll know the Z06. When you test drive one, you'll buy it.

1st gear on the regular C5 is a 2:66/1 ratio vs. 2:99/1 for the Z06. That gets you going quicker aside from the other differences mentioned above.
