I recently have gotten rid of my Yellow C-5 coupe that did not have Mag Ride Control for a C-5 convertible that does. Both models were 2004.
The yellow coupe seems to have more stability than my new one. I am wondering if something is wrong with the selective control. I have not taken it to the Chevy store yet. It seems to be fine on a smooth road. Can someone give me some input???? Thanks

5 years ago when your car was new - it was shipped with these spacers in the shocks, that were intended to be removed when the vehicle was being prepped for delivery. Many sets were overlooked - and the situation got so bad, GM issued a TSB on the subject.
I wonder if it's possible that you have the donuts in place?

Did you drive it before you bought it? I have ride control on my 2004 and turn it on sport when on bouncy roads. I dont know if ride control would work on any road with potholes and crap like that.
Forget stability, when you switch to sport mode, you can feel the suspension stiffen, does yours? You CAN feel the difference.
Definitely check for the shock stuffers. There have been people like you who bought, and the poor slob original owners never removed them and lived with a crappy ride the whole time.
If they are there and you remove them, it will be a new car.
Good luck.
What would I be looking for to see if these are still on my car??? I have the Mag ride control and to be honest it sucks..... Maybe these "stuffers" are still on my car.
Could you elaborate? Sucks covers a lot of ground. I personally love Mag Ride and wouldnt buy a Z51 suspended vette for any reason.

They were white styrofoam with a yellow ribbon hanging from them. I say "were" because if they're still in there, I'm sure they've discolored from road grime.

Those yellow stands are to alert people to take them off. They hang down.

You may have to pull at the booted area around the shock to see if they are still there.
Let us know.
I have my original tires and I think in the spring I will replace them....with what......I have no freaken idea ! The Michelins to me do not look as good, not as wide and don't like tread pattern look. The non run flats scare me with no spare so I have the winter to decide I guess. Its a shame because I only have 16.5 K on them.
This is only the second Corvette I have ever owned. I previously had an 87 C4 Vert. Compared to my C5 I would take the handling of the C4 any day. The C5 just doesn't hang onto the road the way the C4 did even when the shocks on the C4 were shot. The C4 handled poorly when the outside air was temp was below 40 until I took the original Good Year Gatorbacks off in 2003. Thats right, 18 years and no radial cracks. THOSE tire were hard as rocks when I took them off but when they were hot they stuck well. Where I live now (Tucson) the C5 tires really never get real cold.
I had the Good Year run Flats on all 4 corners until about 3000 miles ago. They are the original tires that came on the car (I'm the second owner). Tire manufacture date is 4003 so they are 5 years old now. When I bought the car 15 months ago it only had 4875 miles on it. An older woman owned it previously. I drove the car but not hard before I bought it so I was not aware it handled so poorly when you try to enjoy the curves. I recently put Mich PS2's (non run flats) on the back after I got a non repairable nail hole in one of the rears. I have the runflats on the front as they still have LOTS of rubber left. (Mixed tires is not the problem because it doesn't handle any better or worse than when I had all 4 run flats.)
I won't have a chance to put the car up to check for the shock stuffers until the weekend. I'm hoping that they are there and that is why it handles so poorly. I'll post later in the weekend on whether I find the stuffers still in place.

Hey, I'm going to be in Tucson next week Nov 9 to Nov 15, staying at Inns Suites on Granada, bring your car by and lets take a spin, and see if it rides different than mine. Which ride don't you care for, Sport or Touring or both?
