sounds like the headlight switch is going bad. There's probably a small connection problem. The headlights will normally remain up but off if you turn them on, then back to the parking light position. What I believe is happening is that there's a momentary connection between the parking light position and the headlight connection when you're turning it on.
to confirm this, have someone stand in front of your car and see if your headlights illuminat at all (even for a fraction of a second)
Ever since I put HID's in my fogs mine do the same thing...
I know a couple of you have said you have done nothing to your cars but maybe they are related or at least this may provide another clue.
I've heard a few guys mention that problem in the past. Its often when a headlamp motor is about to quit. If you just replaced them its unlikely to be the motors. The switch is always a possibility as suggested. I'd start by checking if its a connection problem or a grounding issue.
Theres a TSB out for erratic headlamp movement on the drivers side. The procedure is to check the insulators on the motors. It may be worth making sure you didn't disturb them when you did the motor change. Although the symptoms are different its easy to check. Here's the pic. The insulators are the washers marked #2
If not, the next thing I'd check are the grounds on the headlight motors.
If you mean via the DIC, I've never activated the twilight function. Meaning. it's off and has been off. The headlight stay closed upon starting. The problem just seemed to start happening one day.
I did not replace my headlamp motors, I replaced the gears. I didn't even remove the assy, however I did remove the parts listed below. When making the fix, I did unplug the power. Maybe this has something to do with it? I'll try reseating..
