My C5 convertible won't see much of the outdoors for the winter months and I was wondering about storage prep. The dealer who sold me the car & who tried to rip me off on the price of a 20 min Blackwing install which I did myself. now he sent me a 'come home' winterizer package for $250 which basically is a lot of 'checks' (check belts, hoses, brake fluid, coolant; lube locks, hinges, suspension & sway bars; inflate tires, clean interior, treat carpeting etc) and polish & seal exterior. And add fuel stabilizer and Techron Fuel treatment treatment. My local GM dealer said most everything was done by his staff at the last oil change and other than the fuel stabilizer, the rest is pretty unnecessary. Your thoughts on what sounds like a $250 wax job.
Hey My cousin lives in Rhinebeck....well anyway if I was you I would change the oil and put some stabilizer in the full gas tank and wash and wax it but.....don't store it. There are quite a few nice sunny days in the winter and I use mine on them (as long as they are on the weekend) If it gets a little dirty I take it to the "hand wash" not to far from me.
Do a search. You'll find plenty info. In short: Change Oil, add fuel stabilizer, wash & wax, leather treatment on seats, vinyl treatment on dash & door panels, Diletric (<--spelling?) grease on all weather stripping, add 10 PSI to tires, battery tender, I put moisture absorbers on floor mats and in trunk, car cover and you are set.
Checking belts, fluids, etc is normal maintenance in my book and has nothing to do with winter storage (except oil change of course).
Yes, skip the dealer $250 winter check up and do it yourself as outlined above. I'll be driving mine as long as the roads are free of snow, sand and salt. Corvettes.....you drive 'em!
I agree, the dealer will screw you anytime they can.
This is what I do before I put mine away.
1.Wash
2.Clay bar
3.Wax
4.Oil change
5.Clean air filter so I dont have to do it come spring.
6.Put stable in the tank and run the car for a few minutes to get it circulated in the lines, pump, rails and injectors.
7.Battery tender
8.Cover the car.
My storage is a Wolf cover that comes off in about 10 seconds. If the roads are clean of snow and ice, we'll be on the road. Telll you cousin to be on the lookout.
