Default Simple Fix for an Annoying Problem

Does this look familiar to you?

I got really tired of those annoying door cover panels popping off when you least expect it, especially if one or more of the tabs have broken off. ...and at around $5-7 a pop buying one everytime was getting ridiculous too, so I had heard talk of a fix so decided to try and find one too.

This is what I ended up using...

I had a siphon pump with 1/4" plastic tubing on it laying around that I never used.

...and some J-B Weld epoxy...

So I cut off 2 pieces of hose off the siphon pump, each was about 1 to 1 1/2" in length and mixed up some J-B Weld and did this...

I did have to trim the tubing on each side a bit because I had cut it a bit long, but only took about 2 fittings on each side to get it to the right length so it didn't hit anything when I installed them.

...and now they fit in a lot more securely and haven't had any problems with them popping off. Best part was the total cost was $0 since had the materials laying around!

Yes, I know it's a really small problem in the total scheme of things but I have to admit it REALLY annoyed me!

This thread is ironic because I found my door cover do-hickey on the floorboard today. Thanks for the post!

Thats a great idea. I had that problem too. One of mine was broke off. I had some hard plastic laying around and actually made the tabs and basically melted them into place. It worked perfectly but it wasn't easy.

Yours is simple and effective..

I've been lucky I guess. In the 2 C5's I've owned I've never had that problem.

I think those missing plugs were the first thing I fixed when I bought my car. And not too many months later I found the pass side laying on the floor with most all the tabs broken off.

I have no idea how or why the tabs broke and the thing fell out. Obviously a very poor design. Might try the tubing idea, thanks!

Thanx! Mine broke off when I changed out the Blose speakers for some aftermarket speakers. All I have to do is wake her up from her coma...after I remember where I parked it.....how long ago?

I've heard of a few people complain about this but never had the problem.
First question that comes to mind is why are they there, and will you need to access that spot for anything down the road?

Off topic but are the red lenses on the door panel lights or just reflectors?
