protecting chrome ?

Does anyone use white grease on their underhood chrome hinges/latches, to protect from rust over the winter; my car sits outside. I was told years ago from a corvette chrome company to use white grease.

I use the white grease but not on the vette on my other car on the hinges in the hood and trunk.It is to messy to use on the engine bay of my vette but it is good stuff also i use it on the battery hooks ups in my other car to keep any of that awful white stuff that can harm your battery and keep the cars from starting and keeps rust of the battery also.
