Default Possible disaster.....

Well, I am trying to set some things in motion here to find out the fate of my car.

A little while ago (~1yr) I had an incident that made me hop a curb and run up a concrete embankment. I think I was going around 30-40mph when it happened. Since then, the car was "repaired" and given back. Now, I don't drive this car much as it is a nice weather car or always being tinkered on by me.

Now, when I drive the car and hit a depression or a pretty good bump in the road, the passenger rear tire rubs the inner liner and the bottom most of the fender. I have tried everything I can think of to see if I can fix it myself. I have put new Bilstein sport shocks hoping that would help. No go. I have raised the car with the lowering bolt only on that side. No go (Acutally, it didn't even seem to move the car at all ).

The other thing that I noticed is when I work on the car and jack it up in the air. Before my incident, I would have jackstands set on the same height and contact the car at all 4 points. Now, the drivers side jackstand can move freely while all of the weight is on the passenger side.

Well, now, I called the shop that did the work and haven't heard from them. I am fearing the worse of the car being totalled. I have dumped a ton of money in this car to make it mine and it would kill me to have to go through it again, if I am able to.

So, has anyone come out good after a similar situation, wrecking the car, having it deemed totalled and then buying it back to part out? How did it work out for ya?

Sorry for the long vent. I hope it is just the rear suspension.

After an accident a car is never right. Delete this post and sell the car.

LOL....I would rather not sell. Besides, I would have to find the person with my exact tastes and someone that can handle a TT corvette.

It was my intention to keep the car until I die, and I wouldn't sleep right knowing I sold a car that could be potentially unsafe.

Sounds like it was glued back together crooked or twisted.

Good luck on straightening that out.

Are you F-ing kidding me? You are telling him to delete this post so to hide this information to any potential buyer from this forum? Wow I hope everyone on this forum sees your reply and NEVER buys anything from you. Maybe you were being sarcastic or just joking, but when someone suggests to hide a major problem like this to someone who would be spending that much money to buy it, I get a bit irritated to say the least.

It sounded like that was a sarcastic response though...

A good frame shop should be able to sight the frame on a frame machine and let you know if it's tweaked or not.

well, no return call from the shop. I'll give them a ring tomorrow to see what they want to do. We have some pretty good dealerships that can check the frame here in town.

Good luck Scott! I have a hammer and some bailing wire... might be able to dig out some duct tape.

I'd have it on a frame machine asap. I'd also see what kind of legal ramifications could be brought about the shop that did the repair for their oversight.

Thanks for the response. I watched a very nicely modded C5 Z06 spin and climb a Jersey barrier at Firebird Raceway in Phoenix. It was painfully brutal and I could see how it could damage the structure of the car. It was sickening to watch. I didn't bring up it was on track in case it was the OP's car and he didn't want that info getting out. It too was about a year ago and the description of the incident sounds just like what I watched.

I would count my blessings just being able to walk away from any wreck, let alone one in a Vette.

These cars explode!

Parting out a car is a lot easier now with Ebay and forums so you might want to consider that.

Sorry you wrecked.

I'll be sending a pm shortly. I think I will take it to a few shops to have good opinions on the health of the car. If I have multiple showing that it is twisted, then I will have some ammunition and start building a case.

Are the springs reversible in these cars? I am wondering if you could take the spring off and swap sides to see if the problem went to the other side. Since these are composite, I'm wondering if there could be microfractures in the spring possibly causing this problem.

OP says that when he has it on jackstands it isn't level.

Don't think it is a spring problem
