I'm trying to gauge real market value on a Z06. Lets say I've come across a 2003 Z06 for $18-19K with about 70K miles. I assume this to be a decent price and possible could make a offer of $17.5.
The catch, the car has over 30k worth of repairs due to an accident. This includes frame work and repaint. However the car shows well and drives as good as any vette with the same mileage.
I've had a couple previously salvage titled vehicles that were repaired, and they always seemed to have persistant issues. I will never go that route again.
Two major issues with a previously wrecked vehicle are 1: resale value (especially with a corvette), most people run when they know the vehicle has been a major accident. 2: The potential for mechanical problems down the road increases immensely if the the vehicle had that much work done in repairs.
Spend a little more on a vehicle with a clean carfax & title, and you'll be glad you did.
For the amount of repairs you are talking about I would have thought they would have totaled the car. The damage must have been pretty extensive. That about 60% of the cost of a 2003 Z06.
Unless you can get the car fully inspected and get a clean bill of health I would definitely pass. Also, as others have mentioned your ability to sell the car will be severely compromised.
In the long-run better to pay a little more for a clean car that you don't have to worry about and that will not be problematic to sell.
