Default Trunk wont open

When you hit the button on the remote to pop the trunk (its a 2001 z06) it will pop, but not come up at all, its such a pain to get it to open. What would I need to fix this so it will actually pop open enough for me to open it? Also when I do get it open, it wont actually stay, if I pull it all the way up it just slams back shut. Is it simply that I just need a new pair of the trunk shocks/struts or is there some kind of acuator?

thanks!
Ken

You need this ^ and new struts. I'd get the new struts first and see if that solves the problem. Mine buddy's took the new struts to stay open, but eventually needed the popper ^ to open enough to get a finger under. I prefer the open and close the door method to allow air pressure to open my trunk.

A lot of people make their own trunk popper, but it does sound like you need the struts.

The problem is that the popper will only get the lid open far enough. If you have a problem with it staying open I guess you'll need new struts.

Trunk Lid Not Opening
I went through this about 3 years ago. I took the whole thing out of the trunk and had a look at the spring mechanism. What I found was a binding in the mechanism. What happens because of this binding is that when released the finger that goes through the striker does not move out of the way quickly enough when released. And because this happens the striker contacts it as it is moving upwards. This impedes the full lift of the trunk lid. So it's not really that the mechanism isn't strong enough in upward movement, but that the latch doesn't get out of the way on it's release.
Easy fix though, I sprayed some WD-40 in the latch on either side of the finger of the latch assembly that catches the striker. It worked immediately. And so I went around to every hinge point also with the WD to ensure the best possible ease of motion. Also I cleaned the rubber gasket around the trunk which was also contributing to holding the lid down. About 6 months latter when the weather got cold it started to happen again, so this time I used a Lithium spray grease and since then it has never happened again. I hope that all made sense and I am sure it'll work for you.
