Do you believe the thief is on this board or is this just an open rant? Do you have serial numbers or photos of the property in the event (however slight) that it's recovered? Your insurance deductible is probably higher than it's worth to report for a claim.
No, I doubt seriouslly the thief is on this board or any other that I frequent, but they might get curious and and take a look through my PC. According to the LEO's, they will most likely format the HD and sell it all. Insurance takes care of the hardware to a point, but the residuals can't be recovered; lesson learned and noted. The LEO's were great, somewhat optimistic with the video, and told me they'd leave a few teeth for me to pull when they catch the jags...at least we had a laugh at the end.
Really? If you can get me some details on that...
My house got broken into this past Feb and I have a feeling they are coming back and would love to do this to track them down if it happend. They already got about 3 other houses in my area.
I got mine at office depot. Price wasn't too bad, though I don't remember what it was.
Stuff can be replaced. Thank God you weren't directly involved with that theft. You live and learn. Unfortunately, we have to be extra cautious nowadays.
My brother in laws house was broken into wedsday afternoon.during the day.His son left 1130 and came back at 1 broke thru back window.took ALOT of jewlrey, that cant be replaced, laptop mp3s,tv,and while the big stuff is covered on his homeowners. The cash and earings and such are not.Word to the wise................Get a safe or hide stuff like things that arent on your homeowners............He said hes going to lose around $15,000 when its all said and done..............He didnt have an alarm sys,or a dog,no cars in the driveway......................... just got to be smart about these scumbags
I'm sorry to hear about your car being burglarized, but people have to get into the habit of not leaving valuables in plain view in their cars. Locking your car or even having an alarm isn't always a deterrent. I'd guess that 60%-70% of all the car burglaries we handled involved unlocked cars, and a vast majority of them occurred when the cars were parked at home in the driveway or in the garage with the overhead garage door open. I've seen everything from radar detectors, wallets, purses, GPS systems, computers, tools, fur coats, cash, paychecks, and just about anything you can think of taken from locked and unlocked cars and pickup trucks. Don't tempt a thief. If they don't see something of value inside your vehicle, they're much less likely to break into it.
The original poster indicated that the PD was notified. Unfortunately, in this day and age, theft usually takes a lower priority to more serious crime.
I agree, sad but true. My car was hit, while parked, in front of my house. I called the local authorities, showed them the gray paint, told them where the alleged suspect was visiting, 2 houses down, was told that "Because you didn't see the act there is nothing that we can do." The truck, Ford Ranger, disappeared for 3 days and came back with a primered passenger side quarter panel. LEO unable to assisit. The repairs were over $2000, and when the SOB and I saw each other he waved and laughed. If I were to take matters in to my own hands, I would lose. Punks, thieves, whatever you want to call them need to be dealt with. Quote below has some merit......
There is something to be said about countries with laws that allow for the removal of hands of thieves...[/QUOTE]
Thanks for the great feedback. I guess the old saying is true, you can take the boy out of the country, but you can't take the naivety out of the boy......until you break into my car....
BTW, props to Auto Glass Specialists On site within 30 mins of the phone call; 20 mins to fix and cleaned up 99% of the broken glass.

Unfortunately, in most car burglaries there just isn't a whole lot to go on. Most that I've seen solved have been because someone heard or observed something unusual and called the police right away. Sometimes you get lucky and find them still on foot in a neighborhood. We also arrested a number of car burglars after the fact as a result of traffic stops for minor violations late at night. I had a case one time where a kid burglarized a van and took a dump inside while doing so, and didn't realize his wallet fell out when he dropped his pants. Now that's poetic justice!
