I will be driving my vette back from Lower alabama, in december, about a month later it will be in storage mode, unfortunately only under an car port thing, in texas, I will have a friend come out and start her up everyonce inawhile while I am gone.
couple of questions:
Fuel stabilaizer yes or no not going to be driven much just stared up maybe very light driving??
Oil is at 17 percent on the computer drive is about 900 miles back and I plan to change the oil before I come back to texas. Figure get it done then it should be good for the next year, and not long again after I get back another oil change.
Tires should be okay, but I am approaching what will be 35 K probably by the time I get home, stock run flats will need to be replaced.
So can I make it back on 17 percent and then change oil in texas or just do it in AL before trip.
Yes or no to fuel stabilizer, yes the tank will be full when I put it in??
any other tips for the year I will be gone to Iraq for storing the baby.
No cash for a cover otherwise I would probably do that.
Thanks for the advice, plan to upgrade the interior with noise dampening material, and a new indash DVD nav system, after I get back. After having one there is no going without man what did we do without GPS systems.
Put the stabilizer in at your last tank refill, so its worked into the entire fuel system.
Two ways to look at the oil change,
1. If your friend will be starting it up routinely, you could just leave it until you get back. Upon returning immediately change the oil.
2. If it looks like the car will not be started routinely, change it before you depart.
Battery, sounds like you'll be leaving it under a carport, so a battery tender hook up is probably out of the question. If the car is going to be sitting without starting for 3-4 weeks, just disconnect the negative battery cable.
Keep your account here active, if I replace my car cover this winter I'll contact you and send my old one down to your friend.
Best to you on your deployment and speedy return, we'll keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

Do put the fuel stabilizer in the gas tank when you fill it up for the last time before leaving.
Since it is going to be stored outside, you might want to put some moisture absorbing packets inside the car along with some mothballs in both the interior and under the hood to keep critters out.
I always changed the oil in mine before putting it away for the winter. I'd still recommend doing that for your car.
One of our fellow Forum Members noticed you need a cover to store your car while you are gone.
So he just bought you one
PM me the address where you will be storing your car, and it will be
there waiting for you.
Gods speed and stay safe
Peace
Chip
This place is full of very generous people.
Now your car will be snug and safe - one less thing to worry about while you're away. Be safe and keep your eyes open while you're over there and thank you (and all your brothers and sisters in arms) so much for all of your service!
Talon46 - Do you happen to be stationed at Fort Rucker right now? It is the only Military base I can think of in Lower Alabama? I am here at Fort Rucker for the next few months to finish up flight school in the Apache. If you are here at Fort Rucker, maybe we can take our Vettes out for a cruise before you leave for Texas.
I am not currently in LA, but will be in about a week, coming home to visit the wife pick up the vette, as she needs our one ton truck to pick up firewood while I am gone. I am doing the geographical bachelor thing. She had the vette for the last few months as I went home to pick up furniture.

There is a thread around with others that have deployed too and people with info about sending stuff. If you want goodies while you are over there then check that thread out and post an address when you get there, or look this thread up and send me a message. I'm getting together a few packages for current Corvette Forum members out there right now and will try to send a few out every few months. Just some snacks, magazines, cleaning stuff, etc.
I will send you a post anything recieved will be greatly appreciated, goodies over there are always nice to get.
You all take care back here, and keep those vette rolling along. I will try to get more involved once I get back from being overthere, If I get promoted again, then I will most likely have to move. If not then I will be in the killeen fort hood area until I decide to retire.
IT was recieved today, in Alabama, I should be there in the next few days to pick up the vette, spend some time with the wife. Then head back to texas.
