Default Traction Control Problem?

Hello,

I have a 2002 Z06 that seems to have a traction control problem. In first and second gear, active handling will come on but the wheels continue to spin. I have no codes on the DIC. The EBCM was repaired by ABSFIXER. The car does have LG headers, vararam, and tune. Before the mods the traction control seemed to work fine. Is it something in the tune causing the traction control not to work or is it just the new found power? I don't think it could be the power b/c I drove a new Z06 and the traction control didn't have a problem in it!

Thanks for your help!

I wonder if its just the added power thats overcoming the TC system. Is this happening under hard acceleration or "normal" driving conditions? The books and video that come with the car say that the laws of physics will overcome the limitations of the TC system.

As far as the new Z06, I'd say that the system is tuned to tolerate the power that particular car can deliver.

It is only happening when I get on it in 1st or second. Maybe it is just the new power?

81c3,

It does seem to wheelhop in 2nd maybe it is working but it just isn't like when it was stock. It used to cut almost all power until it stopped spinning.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Traction control will allow you to spin the rear tires under the correct conditions. I can do this with my unmodified Z. Usually, if both rear wheels are spinning and the car is going in a more or less straight line it will allow a certain amount of spin. It uses the rear brakes to control the spin. Just think about a similar condition if you were driving up a hill in the snow. You would want the wheels to spin a certain amount but wouldn't want the power killed or you wouldn't make it up the hill. Some economy cars still have this problem and people literally have to turn off their traction control to drive up their icy driveway in the winter. This time of the year with cold pavement and cold tires I can spin the rear tires in first and second for some distance if I try to accelerate at anything over half throttle.

I got an 04 Z just over a month ago. I have never really floored 1st, but if I floor second, I always spin my tires. I have never held it down longer than a second, so i don't know if TC would kick in after. Am I supposed to see any indication of TC when it kicks in, like something flashing in the instrument cluster or the HUD?

Yea, I had intermittant results with my T/C. Sometimes it would jump in and cut power immediately and other times I would try to rely on it and the car would get out of control b/f it would kick in. I ended up just always driving in Competitive mode b/c at least I knew what to expect and didn't have a false sense of security. Driving in Competition mode kept me more vigilent and focused.

I think my car over powers the traction control, the car spins just enough to keep moving and stay straight, but it held back slightly. I think its works in my favor personally, much better than the hitting a brick wall feeling that it use to do
