I raced a 135i with just a turbo back exhaust and a tune. and it smoked me. Those little suckers pull hard i was gaining on him once we hit 70mph. but we shut down at 80. this was from a 20 roll.
My neighbor has a BMW 135 a with a $400 chip in that will get it up to 400 hp! But that doesn't mean that it will smoke a C5Z06.
It would take a fairly heavily modified 135i to beat a C5 Z06, IMO. They're a bit worse for aero than the 335i coupe, so should fall off pretty quick near the top.

I take C&D with a grain of salt BUT if that is anywhere near accurate I am very surprised. The M5 and M6 both lay a pretty decent beatdown on a C5Z. I know ABOVE 150 the M5/M6 have a great gearing edge but I would have bet that 0-150mph they would be pretty damn even. I am going to have to say thats a bad driver in the C5Z. I wouldn't doubt the M6 beating the C5Z but by over 4 seconds is not believeable to me.

Hmm... that doesn't seem right at all. M5-M6 4-5 secs faster?
Here are a few other numbers I found....
C6Z06 0-150 in 17
GT 0-150 in 19.5
Viper 0-150 in 24.1
Fast as a ford GT?

Nope, not as fast as Ford GT. Tested by C&D, Ford GT did 16.9
08 Viper: 17.0
Also check some of those Swedish airfield runs to see a Z06 run against an M6. It's about as far off as the 2-3 seconds suggest. Which is to say, for a car of that weight, not much.
Let's not forget, all of those cars would be much faster with the lightning-fast SMG-type tranny, which has very short gearing. I have a hunch the Viper's total drag area is worse, yet even with that very tall gearing, it's still faster.

I don't think the driver was that bad. 0-60 time in this test was among the best, at 4.0 seconds. And that's probably averaged for two-way runs to cancel the effect of wind, as is their normal practice.
But this does highlight how the C5Z driver has to be abolutely on top of things to have a chance.

Interesting. Did you ever see those videos on the GTBOARD? The German guys that rent out ain airstrip and race all kinds of cars from a 20 roll to about 150-160mph. Now I really want to see a C5 Z06 VS an M5/M6!!

Next spring I will be able to verify this rumour. I will put my Z up against an M5 and an M6 for fun. the 135 with a little work will smoke the M3 and the M3 does not stand a chance against a C5Z. The M3 is a very heavy car. Fun but heavy.
ive raced a m5 from a dig and roll he took off on me from the dig but i cought up fast and beat him roll i took him down all the way my cars bone stock and no stock 135i is coming near a c5 z06 srry buddy

That's a bit of a shocker on the M6/M5 numbers compared to the C5Z06. I guess I really underestimated them.

I'm calliing BS on those legitimacy of those numbers. I've seen numerous 0-100 times for the C5Z @ 9.8-10.2 range. So your telling me our car takes 15 second to get from 100-150......
Most of us usually run the 1/4 mile in mid-low 12's at 116-118..... so it takes another 12 seconds to gain another 30-35 mph...

Car and Driver has some of the most accurate test numbers of any mag I've read - and I've read A LOT of them! Actually, they rate the '02 Z from 0-100 in 9.2 secs if my memory serves correctly. As for taking another 15 seconds to reach 150, that's correct. You're battling a lot of drag in an FRC, and the LS6 is starting to run out of gearing and horsepower at that speed. It takes a TON of horsepower to accelerate quickly at really high speeds, and thats where the M5 and M6 shine.

Yes, that's the effect of drag and gearing. Acceleration isn't linear.
Do you run those times at a normalized test site? C&D's test procedure cancels out many variables: no track prep, usually done at their normal test site, 2-way runs to cancel effect of wind.
