Default Need Help Repairing a Ding

Hiya all,
I was hoping that it would be much longer before I asked for help on this subject, but alas the dreaded has happened.....Happy Frickin' Holidays!

Anyway, the ding is more of a "rub" or "brush" where the other vehicle's door hit mine. There does not appear to be paint removed from my car, but it looks like paint has been deposited by the other door.

I am hoping that I can buff it out with my Flex buffer, but I am strictly and amateur and have very little confidence in undertaking a major "paint project."

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated (other than park further away). Please no smart a$$ remarks.

Thanks, Mike

I would not buff your paint with the other paint still on there. I would try to get the other paint off first so your buffer does not pick it up and scratch your paint.

Try going over it very gently by hand with DuPont polishing compound.

What have you tried so far? Perhaps a clay bar could remove some of the old paint?

Turtle wax makes a product in a green can called "clear coat polishing compound". I would try a little of that on a soft, damp cloth and rub it gently. See what happens..You won't hurt anything as long as you're gentle. I'll bet it comes right off as long as the paint isn't scratched/burnt.

Had a friend with a similar situation and the clay bar took it off like a freaking eraser. I was absolutely amazed.

Thank you all. I hadn't thought about the clay bar. I will try it and let you know how it works.
