I guess winshield company is charging 1800 to replace front windshield alone. This isn't the bodyshop as they hire out for that part. Part of the 10k is also to cover a chip in rear glass, disassembly of all panels, fenders hood etc. As asphalt filled interior of them and to sand and paint entire car. Also includes damage to undercarriage, rims and the devalue of car(which that part I'm not clear on). I should have made it a little more clear on the 10k instead of saying just paint. My first assumption was that myself. I know engine compartment has to be thoroughly cleaned of the asphault that came up from bottom and literally filled every nook and cranny. You would be amazed as what it does to your stainless headers block and everything else, hot asphault sticks to about everything. I don't know if it will ever look as it did before.
The scratches and dings in my Dynatech long tubes ,high flow cats , xpipe, and borla exhaust isn't even being covered unless thats in the de-value part of it. I agree with insurance rates as I pay a pretty penny each year as I have 5 cars insurred. We were lucky to find a company a few years ago that has rates way lower than we were paying with same coverage as the one we were using. I'm sure it could be painted cheap and cheaper parts put back on but not sure if i'd be too happy. I paid 2k for exhaust alone, 1200 for rims, and so on. The first bodyshop took one look and wouldn't touch it. I agree prices are probably inflated but if I had to personally go out and buy these parts and pay someone to tear the car apart clean all this up, sand it completely down ,repaint it and so on it would add up pretty quick. 1800 to replace the windshield seems pretty steep but never bought one or paid to have it installed either.
The 4k the company at fault offered on the counter claim I don't think would fix much of whats wrong. I know alot of Corvette owners who would die of just the thought of 100's of small chips going below the paint , believe me it's not a good feeling.
Yeah it adds up real quick... I would seriously not take it to an average body shop... I would find a specialty paint shop ... Dont let an average shop charge top dollar and do sub-par paint work...
After the first shop not wanting to do it, I took it to a shop fairly local with a very good reputation. Both adjusters that came out, trucking co. and my own deal with him on a regular basis.
