Looking at an '04 Blue/Commerative Z06 with 3500 miles and an Lemans Blue '06 Z06 with 1000 miles. Both cars are local to me. The '04 obviously is a C5, less hp. etc., but can be had for about 15k less than the '06. This is strictly a weekend cruiser, not going to be modded. I know the '04 was a limited production, so some future value might be expected compared to the '06? I guess the question would be ,is the '06 that much better of a car for the extra money?
I don't think the C5 Z06 is going to be a collectors item, even that one, I don't think they are that limited. The prices of C5 Z06's continue to drop. I know one thing, if I could afford a C6 Z06 I would have one over my C5 Z.
Truth be told I think they are both a little overpriced. The '04 asking is 35k and the '06 is 50k. These are asking numbers, I haven't gotten real serious with either owner until I make up my mind. The '04 Commemrative is definately a lot higher than a non commemertive Z, I just thought it would hold a higher value. I guess not though.
If you are comparing a C5z with a C6z its apples and oranges. If you want a c5z commemorative ed. with lots of power (much faster than c6z) for a great price look at my signature and click on the link.
I'd say test drive them both and pick the one that puts the bigger smile on your face
Who cares what WE think! Drive them both. I guarantee you'll know right away.

You mean it doesn't feel like a C5
I hear people say that all the time and it always makes me wonder what people mean by that statement. Please tell me, what does a Vette feel like?? I've driven a C6Z which feels nothing like my C5 which feels nothing like my old C4 which feels nothing like a C3, etc, etc...
I did have that option.
I could have a perfect 03 C5 Z06 with 11000 miles and a condo in La Jolla or a C6 Z06 and live at my parents for another 3 years.
I picked the C5Z and the condo.
If I was you I would buy the C5Z06 and take the extra $15000 you would have spent on the C6Z06, put it down as downpayment and buy some property as an investment, rent it out and get the C6 Z06 of your profits.
You're either dealing with an overpriced C5 or a really cheap C6. They shouldn't be that close in price.
I wouldn't pay a premium for the commemorative edition unless it's really what you want, and with all the relatively cheap C5 Zs on the market if you're looking for a great deal, you can't beat 'em. Assuming the 15k difference was relative, the savings would leave you a lot left over to upgrade the C5. In reality low miles C5 Zs can be had for 25-30 K less than a C6. Personally I'm planning on modding my C5 for now and let a few more years of depreciation do their thing on the C6 Zs.
I would buy the car you like more, drive the 2 cars and take them both for an extended ride more than 20 mins at least, then buy the car you like to drive.
I would probably go with the C5 for less money. I have a 2004 Z06 and the main obstacle keeping me from making the switch to a C6 is that is it difficult to justify the premium for the incremental increase in performance.
When is money not a consideration???
The '04 Comm. Z is definately asking a premium. I thought they would hold their value better but I am thinking otherwise now. I thought the comm edition had some extra bells and whistles over the regular Z for that year? Carbon fiber hood, Ti exhaust, and a couple other things???
Unless the '06 really blows me away I can't see spending the extra dough. 50k is tight right now but I want to get the car I want.
Hopefully this weather will let up soon. Between the ice storm last night and the snow storm that is coming the roads are caked with salt and real crappy. Definately won't be able to rip them that much.

The comm edition is cool but the only performance advantage is a 10lb weight reduction on the hood. All C5 Z06's had Ti exhaust. The Comm editions seem to have held a little more value in reality b/c everyone who is selling one is asking a bit more, as you have already noticed. Although the depreciation from here on out will most likely be proportional to all other C5's (the more you pay, the more you loose.)
The "incremental" performance increase in the C6 Z over the C5 Z is a fairly large increment (100 more rwhp, better brakes, bigger tires, more settled handling etc. Sure you can make a C5Z06 competitive with a stock C6Z06 on a roadcourse for not too much money, but you already stated whatever you get you're gonna leave stock. If you like comfort and loads of torque the C6 will be better. If you like a more engaging feeling car that is cheaper and more economical than the C5 might be better. Bottom line, you'll have to drive both and decide. I myself would choose the C6 for a difference of $15K.

I've said that before, when driving the new 97 C5 Convertible. It was too smooth, too quiet, not enough rough edges to be a Corvette in my, and my wifes mind. That was the first thing she said. We have a low mileage 92 convert. Now when I first drove the 01 Z06, I knew it was a Corvette, and couldn't live without one. It felt FAST, cornered great, was light on its feet(cause it IS light), and did NOT feel like a Cadillac sports car. Thats what I mean.
To the OP: Some have said that although the C6 Z06 has more power, the C5 Z06 is much easier to drive aggressively, and to track. That it is balanced more evenly. Thats just opinions from those who have tracked both cars. The C5 is lighter and first of its kind, and the new
ZR1 is faster, so I don't know where the C6 will fall in the future of used Corvette pricing.
