Default road damage?

quick question for everyone here

i was driving through LA last night.. it was pretty dark.. and i was unfamiliar with the area.. i was on a tiny street, the road pretty messed up.. by the time i saw the humps and dips on the road (looks like the trees on the sidewalk have BIIIIIIIIIIIIIG **** roots that made the road all fukced up in multiple areas), it was too late to slow down, and my entire undercarriage hit and scraped the road (i am lowered on stock bolts)

i looked underneath my car, its pretty scratched up. i dont want to pay a penny for this, so can i complain to the city, or should i just call my insurance? i have a $500 deductible, which im not willing to pay either since none of this was really my fault.

i can take pictures of the street and you wont believe how F'd up it is.

good luck
you should drive on some of the streets they got in Italy. When i was working there, I was driving a Honda with low profile tires (205/40/17)...drove through a pothole the size of a crater (at least 5 inches deep)...no time to drive around it...both right tires had snake bite and one rim had a frctured spoke! Had to get it towed, since I only had one spare. It was a heavily used main road which should have been maintained...but nooooooooooooooo. I had to pay for all the damage.

yeah, you should try. if nothing else your complaint will get someone out there to fix it. in Chesapeake I know someone who went through it once. the city said that they are only liable for pothole damage (required new tire and wheel) if its been reported once and not fixed before your incident. they said they would check to see if it were reported and call us back if they felt they owed us for the damage.

needless to say that's the last we heard.

well i had a friend who was driving along the road, and on the side of the road there was one of those big trucks with cones around it cutting trees and what not.. something fell out, he tried to avoid it, his tires hit the curb since he lost a little control.. he called the city (or maybe insurance, cant remember) and they paid him in full for the damages.

You can get repairations from the local government if you can prove negligence on their part.

My daughter bent three rims and blew out two tires due to an unmarked section of road that was removed for repair. The city and the county both said sorry about that, it's not their problem. They said someone must have removed the barrier durring the night.

Good luck proving the damage is due to the particular street.

Unfortunately I also think that you're SOL on this as well I was thinking of lowering my car as well, but I've heard too many stories like this, so I think I keep it stock!

Sorry to hear about that...especially just before Christmas as well

Before you contact your insurance company, do contact the city's transportation department. There should be a contact person there that deals with vehicle damage caused by street issues.
