It's obviously your choice, but something like a Kicker CVR-12 with a 400.1 amp sounds huge in a car the size of a Vette. I did a lot of looking and research before I bought mine and couldn't be happier. If you want something that sounds good and is plenty loud something similar to this will do it. Of course if you just want to blow out the neighbor's windows go with 1000 watts of boom.

I had a JL Audio 10w7 with a 500/1 V2 amp and it was more than enough. If you are serious about audio, research the W7 series. My one 10" sub is a whole lot louder and clearer than any of the others listed above. I was usually louder than people with 2 or 3 12" subs. The W7 series is just unreal. I sold my amp and now have my 10w7 I am getting rid of. It came with a JL Audio box (NOT a Vette box) so it does not fit well in the trunk but you could always sell the box and keep the sub.
But this is not a for sale thread. My informed opinion is JL Audio is some of the best quality subwoofers out there. Not cheap by any means, but quality second to none.
99% of the time with audio equipment, you get what you pay for. Keep that in mind the old adage rings especially true in this case.

I also have JL gear in my car. a 10W6 with a 500/1 amp and it is very clean and loud. with the top down at 85 mph, the music is clean and clear but my ears ring a little when im done....
I didn't get any interior rattle, but there was just a tad outside. I dynamatted the whole interior of the trunk and it took care of it and made it sould a lot better. I was able to do the whole thing with the trunk kit. If I was still that serious about my audio, it would have been well worth it. But now I am going for performance and trying to reduce weight.
