Hi, I am new to this forum and just purchased a 2002 vette.... I wish I can post pics but I dont think I'm allowed at this point. I only drove it twice and I've noticed that when I do go over small bumps and dips on the road(the ones you can't avoid) it rattles. The sound definitly comes from above or behind me like the targa top or trunk area. Just sounds like something is loose you know.... I checked the top and the trunk for the most part and they seem to be tight.... I'm new to the vettes so I don't know if this is a normal thing. I think i will take off the targa and inspect the trunk area better tomorrow. Thanks in advance.......
Make sure the back of the targa is on correctly. Take a look at the "pegs" on the back of the targa. Are thet seated in their hole? Did one pinch the plastic molding causing it to rattle? Another possibility is the seat belt shoulder strap. There is a cover just behind your left shoulder. Aso, lubricate the weather strip around the traga as well as the back hatch. Pick up a tube of break system silicone compound by Dynatex. You can probably get it at any auto parts store. I got mine from Corvette Central.

Drive it around with the top removed and see if it still rattles.
Just a suggestion, I had a rattle problem with the two Corvettes I have owned and was very surprised and pleased to discover both times the rattles originated from the visors vanity mirrors. When experiencing rattles simply hold mirror doors with your hand and see it the rattle stops. Rob
mine rattles, took me about a month to locate it. I am missing a small black plastic piece located on the molding that is between the targa and the trunk. I don't know the part number or i would have fixed it already, it is annoying. No rattle with the roof off though.
