stock to stock the best driver wins the race. it really suprises me how rediculous some of those guys sounded.

LS2s are no where close... LS6 vs. LS3 is a toss up.

Back when I was stock, I made a couple passes at the local 1/8 track. I ran 7.9's pretty consistently. There was an LS2 C6 there running 8.5. I would say that an LS6 and LS3 race would be close with equal drivers. I don't think an LS2 would give an LS6 any problems. Driver skill would be the biggest factor.

this is only based on my experiences. i lined up a buddy (on a track) he has a c6 z51 and i have an 01 c5 z (the slow one) . we have the same mods and i pulled on him a good bit. on the other hand my other friend also has a c6 z51 with similar mods and on a dragstrip he took me due to major traction issues on my behalf, but it was within 1-2 tenths and i was pulling quite a good bit at the trap but it was a little too late. in short, its a drivers race but with perfect driving a c5 z can and will pull in a straight line. now on a road corse a c5 z will consistantly lap faster then a c6 z51.

Would not the LS2 and LS3s torque management keep the C6 from quick acceleration as in a drag race?

I cannot vouch for a LS3, but I had a 05 LS2, and my Z06 is much faster. Both are\were stock. My LS2 was a auto with the 3.15 gears. Now top speed is another matter. The C6 has a higher top speed with the LS2 OR LS3. And on a road course the C5 Z06 is faster.

I think with the LS2 its a simple matter of lookin at the fact. The LS2 has the same HP/TQ (roughly) but more weight. AS everyone said the LS3 is a bit closer and is a true drivers races.

Top Speed?

Unless you have a 500+ hp and torque beast, quoting top speed is just bragging about how weak your gearing is. The C6 has a weak 5th gear ratio, giving it a higher redline. The C5Z is aggressive, giving it a shorter 5th gear.

If you want to set top speed records, put in a poorly geared automatic rear end gear and get passed by everyone until you reach 175mph. Say... a stock 97 C5 base model. Sounds soft to me.

Based on the power to weight ratio the LS3 should easily walk a C5Z06! But that’s not factoring the gearing on the C5Z06 vs the LS3. Can anybody shed some light on this?!

By the way what’s the top speed on the LS2 and LS3 cars? I know the C5Z06 it’s 176mph (or in that range).

Look up the MPH for 6600rpm in a 0.74 geared 5th gear.... LS3 will be a few MPH higher. It has nothing to do with power, just gearing.

It has to do with aerodynamics and gearing AND horsepower. The C6 is more aerodynamic than the FRC body. The top speed is around 190 for the 6 speed LS3 coupe and 186 for the LS2 6 speed coupe. The Z06 will go to about 167 max because of gearing and aerodynamics.

I have NEVER seen a test on a C5 Z06 where it did 170. Most top speed figures I have seen were 167-168, and drag limited.

I did some research and came up with response...

It's not an aerodynamic issue against the C5 since its limited by RPM, not drag. (Unless the 168mph figure it correct, but then again, the base C5 would be the exact same, which it isn't.)

The LS6's 5th gear can theoretically reach 174 MPH.

The LS2's (and LS7's) 5th gear can theoretically reach ~215 MPH.

The LS3's 5th gear can theoretically reach ~205 MPH.

The LS2 and LS3 is drag limited to 186 and 190 respectively. Those two cars can increase their top speed by increasing their horsepower. If they increase it in the 500 hp+ range, they will reach ~202 MPH (think C6 Z06.)

The LS6 is geared so aggressively, shifting into 6th will always slow it down unless it gained a massive amount of power. Even shifting a C6 Z06 into 6th will slow it down.

The true test would be to swap in a LS3 trans into a C5Z and see how much faster over 174 it will go. We know the C6 has a lower drag coefficient, so I doubt the C5Z would ever hit 190, but I think it could get somewhere in the 185 range.

Okay, I stand corrected.

I thought I read the C5Z06 could reach 176mph.

The C5 Z06 is usually rated at 171mph for top speed.

From the faq at the top of the section:
"All Corvettes, not just the Z06, undergo 250 miles of full-bore autocross testing, 24 hours of road-course testing at competition speeds, and a grueling wide-open throttle test that has the car run at its 175-mph top speed until the gas tank runs dry about 30 minutes later. No question, the Z06 comes up as a very special version of a very special car. Somewhere, Zora Arkus-Duntov is smiling."

Just goes to show that people will argue about anything on this forum. I guess I'll join the fray. The C6's torque management system is fairly invasive and has been proven to hinder acceleration. With equal drivers a stock C5Z will easily "walk" a stock LS2 C6 hands down (this should be old news to everyone by now). The LS3 C6 is a far superior reiteration. It is still plagued by torque management, but the added horsepower & torque provided by the LS3 help to offset the loss. In a drag race the C5Z and the LS3 C6 are very evenly matched.

Do we have a LS3 C6 "fast list" to compare times with the following?
