Default hoooooonnnnnnk!!!

I had occasion to use my horn yesterday, as another vehicle was pulling directly into my lane.

The kiddo and I had the music cranked up, and she was sleeping. But the horn woke her...and we thought the other driver was honking back...NOT!!! My horn was on continuous blow.

I hit the horn again, and it went off.

Later, I was in a restaurant, and someone came and got me....it was on continuous blow again...not honking like the alarm...just straight continuous blowing.

Starting the car and hitting the horn only caused it to interrupt the blowing, but it came right back on. I had to put the car in gear and blow the horn to get it to cut off.

It did it again during the night, so I pulled the fuse.

Has anyone had this happen? Any ideas on what might be wrong?

This is on my 97.

most of the posts I've seen where the horn is blowing , or starts for no good reason have turned out to tbe the swiitch in the steering wheel. Since the airbag is also in there, replacement is not something for the inexperienced.

Happened to me in the middle of the night. Needless to say I wasn't a hit with the neighbors.

I was at a friend's home out of town last night...and another friend is a neighbor....waaaaay across the street.....they called and told us it was going off!!! We were in the other end of the house, with the music going, and talking, and didn't hear it.

So what was the fix on yours???

My guess would be a bad horn relay or the connection in the steering wheel itself.

Mine was the switch in the steering wheel. Took an hour under warranty at the dealer.

I knew there was a reason I have never honked my horn the past 8 years!

I suspect that is why this is not one of the well known issues on the C5 - nobody ever uses it!

Never thought you would have to use a horn to get someone's attention.

Good luck with the fix. Sounds like it would be an annoying problem to have.

Liz,

From your description (removing the fuse) most likely it is the horn 'relay' located in the steering wheel itself.

Suggestion: give EG or Jason a call - offer them some egg nog (liquored up for Jason, plain for EG) and I would be amazed if they couldn't fix this at your house in less than an hour (only serve the egg nog AFTER the work is satisfactorily completed).

In any event - have a Merry Christmas.
