As for the catch can issue, if you have a FI car or lot of power adders combined with hard driving or frequent track use, then a catch can is beneficial if not essential.
For the most part, a catch can is not required. All internal combustion engines accumulate oil vapor in the intake. This happens even if you have a catch can installed. Well that's my .02 on this subject.

I'm confident that if there was a significant power, emissions or longevity gain GM would have figured out a way to integrate this function into the engine at the factory. If someone wants to share a back to back dyno, Hc reading or teardown comparison I'm all ears.
