kill the f45 system on my '98 vert with four 10 watt 10 ohm resistors from Ratshack = 4 dollars

'06 z06 shocks = 200 dollars

z06 sway bars and springs F&R = 300 dollars

Lowered all four corners = free

Staying on my boy's '06 z06 tail in the twisties and the look on his face when I did it.............

Friggin Priceless!!!!!!!

thats a great buy on the '98, plus if you figure on doing any type of modifications, which most of us do, then more mod money available by going with the '98. Many here will vouch that modding the Vette is addictive and expensive, but damn fun.

I love my '98.

Best of luck to you

They were great cars to start and just got better as they progressed. Buy the newest you can afford.

I think $14k is a great price, hell I could afford to have that for a work/daily driver.

I think it is. But from my perspective, I have so many better options... 01 for $18 or 04 for $19.5. I'm unwilling to go over $20K for the 04.. with taxes and everything though.

It seems that most people are not aware of realistic prices... the dealers that are asking more are the ones stuck with their cars.

Dealer just told me it's sold today. Not surprising though. These prices are realistic ones that will be sold in a reasonable amount of time. I think the car was listed for at least a few weeks.

I bought my 98 in 2005 and put 16k miles on it with no issues. It is a very dependable car in deed.

The only issue with his car is the driver.

I've got a '98 with F45 and Active Handling - it all works sweet right now,and if it ever breaks,I'll fix it (it's almost 11 years old,and nothing lasts forever)
If a newer Vette is what you really want, then get a newer Vette-but that's still not a guarantee that something expensive won't need repair or replacement sooner or later.
I bought the Vette fully aware of the "Corvette Tax",and the distinct possibility of contracting "Mod Fever",so If I need to get some new ,pricey shocks,or repair the tranny,or whatever,it's no biggie-I expect to spend some money on it.($500.00 so far, just on "gotta-have" goodies)

A younger co-worker of mine owns a '99, he's had it for 2.5 years now,and I gotta say,he literally "thrashes the snot out of it" on an almost daily basis, plus autocross, and the tires are the only thing that have been replaced on that car.
I cite him as an example, because I've only owned mine for about 5 weeks ,so I don't really know how it's gonna do in the long run,but as much fun as it is to drive ,I'll deal with whatever comes along.

It's a good deal, but not the kind that would get sold right away or else it would be gone by now.

It's now 11 years old. You can't really expect it to hold anything close to $17K.

I found an 01 with 20K miles for $18K.. I think I'm going with that one instead. It's a 6-speed vs the 98's auto.
Yes I can. Mine is immaculate and low mileage. I'm not giving it away because someone's looking for a deal.

If you look elsewhere on the forum, you'll see that the majority of members think a 99 with some problems and 81K miles might be worth $15K. IF that's the case, mine is damn sure worth $17K.
