So, when it's time to replace the pads on my Z, what do you guys recommend?
I'm planning on having a dealership deal with most if not all maintenance.
I would recommmend HAWK HPS brake pads, they are supposed to stop better than ZO6 pads and dust a lot less. I use them, they stop MUCH better than GM Ceramics.
How do we really know that these $20 brake pads are inferior though? Everyone is just assuming they suck because the price is low. Anyone who is in the business of making brake pads would probably tell us that brake pads selling for $100 don't cost anywhere near that much to make. So it's entirely possible these $20 brake pads are good quality parts, just without the huge markup. High price doesn't always mean high quality, and low price doesn't always mean low quality either.

thank god for a breath of fresh REASON!
the "+ price" or "+ MSRP" = " + quality" connection is very psychological- far more than you'd believe. For many things, yes, it's connected but for many many other things, it simply isn't so in this day and age where high quality items can be mass produced for very low costs.
the vette tax is a wonderful thing, isn't it?
especially useful when most guys don't put more than 1000miles/year on their cars and don't do more than 5mph over the speed limit...

Bobcat 1521™ is NOT recommended for any track use.
10% off for corvette forum members we can ship them to you or your dealer.
for every day driving (no tracking, to X-cross), you say the GM Delco ceramics are the best. Now, what rotors would be good to go with those? I need new rotors and pads, and dont have a fortune to spend...
Give me a break! Generic medications are equivalent and in many cases the exact same as the brand name, made by the same manufacturer, just labeled differently. Saying that if you get generic medicine for a serious condition, it will result in your death is a little dramatic. You're not also hooked on daytime soaps, are you?

There's a medication that would give her a fighting chance of survival if she did have an attack. You can save money by purchasing this drug from a generic online source for 5 bucks. Or you can buy a proven name brand medication from your doctor for 20.00. Choose wrong and she does have an attack she dies.
Which decision could you live with the rest of your life?
Now take your daughter for a drive in your vette with 20.00 brakes.
It's unlikely any of the original posters are still interested in this thread, but I found it VERY helpful. I've recently picked up a nice '97 with less than 30K miles and noticed the dust on the front wheels the other day. I'm interested in keeping that to a minimum, so the advice and part recommendations was just what I was looking for. THANKS!

Anyone here know what pads GM uses on Cadillac CTS? I've got an '08 and that thing stops like a **** and there is ZERO brake dust on my front rotors. Ever. At least none that I can discern between car washes. I'd love to be able to replicate that on my C5.
Also, any problem combining the ceramic pads with Baer Eradispeed rotors? I need a new set of rotors soon, so it's going to be decision time pretty quickly.

I think you are on to something...98% of all corvette owners drive their car within the law...we spent many man hours designing the bake system for C5's...I really have to laugh at all these guys that claim to push their car to the point where they are driving down main street at 140 mph, and have to brake hard to stop at the neighborhood mini mart.. then get out quickly to beat the school bus to a stop... then in the next breath the say they cant spend the 2 minutes and thirty second to dust off the wheels.. I knew I came back here for something ,all the entertainment value... brakes that dust have a much higher coefficient of friction , thus they stop much better... as Ive said many time with test the C5 brake system against what is one of the best brake systems designs on the planet, that of the BMW.. If you ever see a BMW, you will notice how much dust they produce... a sure sign of a great break system...so all you guys that care about your daughter... get those crap ceramics off your car...ceramic has a very low friction coefficient... ITS HARD"""" hard does not stop as well as soft....its just a buzz word so they can charge you more money for something that is so simple yet all the corvette guru's here dont have a clue about a street driven brake system.. You know one that may require a panic stop once every five years.... Go ahead and spend
that 150 dollars , it helps the economy..
Please dont hate I'm just tuning up my arogance...it could get better..If you wonder why your rotors turn dark, it's because ceramics create more heat... soft, fast stopping brakes grab, but they dust.. but they make your rotors shine... : )
