Default Brake Pads

Any of you guys bought the 19.95 front brake pads from Corvette Central ? Are they any good ? How are they for dust, noise and rotor wear? Thanks Rick

There was just a post with someone wanting to put on cheap brakes, not well received.

I don't go cheap on safety stuff (brakes, tires, etc,).

I have found HAWK HPS brakes to be the best in terms of dust and stopping ability. Around $100 for fronts and $70 for rears.

I agree - brake pads are not something to go cheap on. I too ran Hawk HPS pads on mine and they performed very well.

With the performance capabilities of your Vette - why would you consider $20 brake pads ?? If you want quiet and virtually dust free, check out the GM ceramic pads from the forum vendors- Fitchners or Gene Culley. If I remember correctly, they are about $100 for a front set. Ceramics are very quiet, give more than acceptable stopping power and are grey in color so the brake dust is virtually invisible on a stock grey or silver wheel.

THE GM DELCO CERAMIC BRAKE PADS ARE BY FAR THE MOST POPULAR PADS FOR THE C5. WE SELL AT LEAST 20 SETS OF THEM TO 1 OF THE OE PAD. THE THING TO REMEMBER IS CERAMIC PADS ARE FOR EVERYDAY DRIVING UP THRU WHAT DANA CALLS VERY SPIRITED STREET DRIVING, THE ARE NOT FOR THE TRACK OR HARD AUTOCROSSING. IF THIS FITS YOUR DRIVING THEY ARE THE GREAT WAY TO GO.

WE HAVE THEM IN STOCK AND ARE 99.95 FRO THE FRONT SET AND 65.00 FOR THE REAR. DANA WHO MAKES THEM FOR DELCO SAYS THEY ARE AS DUST FREE AS BRAKE PADS CAN BE MADE.

THE OTHERS ARE CORRECT IN BRAKES ARE ABSOLUTELY NO PLACE TO BE GOING CHEAP, ESP. ON A CAR LIKE THE VETTE.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR WISH TO ORDER GIVE US A CALL AT 800-234-5284 OR EMAIL US AT parts@fichtnerchevrolet.com

ALSO HAVE SENT A PM!

BOB

I got my GM Ceramics from Fichtner's, and a lot of other Gm parts too. They are GREAT to deal with and prices are great also. Plus they are a Forum Vendor!

for every day driving (no tracking, to X-cross), you say the GM Delco ceramics are the best. Now, what rotors would be good to go with those? I need new rotors and pads, and dont have a fortune to spend...

Ceramic pads are not standard on a C5. They come with ferrometallic pads that dust quite a bit.

ZO6s have softer pads, that stop faster and dust even more.

So, when it's time to replace the pads on my Z, what do you guys recommend?

I'm planning on having a dealership deal with most if not all maintenance.

Ask yourself one question.
You have a young daughter that has a medical condition. Though not probable, it's possible that she could have an attack during a camping trip. It's totally random and might never even happen, but it IS possible and you know it.
There's a medication that would give her a fighting chance of survival if she did have an attack. You can save money by purchasing this drug from a generic online source for 5 bucks. Or you can buy a proven name brand medication from your doctor for 20.00. Choose wrong and she does have an attack she dies.
Which decision could you live with the rest of your life?
Now take your daughter for a drive in your vette with 20.00 brakes.

I've heard that ceramic pads are standard on the Cadillac XLR.
Not sure if it's true or not.
I have them on my '01, and would recommend them for non-competative use. The low dusting from them is great!

I had the ceramics on my car when I bought it. They were damn good for regular use. I changed out to HPS due to what I use the car for, but for touring or everyday type stuff the ceramics are great and last well.

That is a little extreme

Regardless just buy good brakes! You spent the money to buy a high performance car that can do 150++++ now buy brake pads that can stop your 1.5 ton sports car SAFELY!

Default Carbotech perfrmance brakes

Only Carbotech uses a proprietary Ceramic and Metallic brake construction, not the carbon and iron used in conventional brake systems. Since carbon and iron combine to form carbide, which is used in cutting tools, you can imagine what those brakes are doing to your rotors.

Carbotech Performance Brakes utilize true race compounds that are "rotor friendly," eliminating the grabbing and locking up that keep so many drivers and race cars from performing at their peak. You want to go deep to gain those precious fractions of a second before you need to brake, and only Carbotech brakes let you do just that. In every turn, all race long.
