Coming from the car business, and having many many friends in the business, I can tell you that these sales guys (and managers)are loosing homes, having their power and phones shut off, and flat not getting paid.
I the car business if you dont meet your numbers, and dont make enough to cover your general draw check, (a small amount they give you at the beginning of the month) come pay day, you get a void check.. What does that mean?? That means where the pay line is, it says "VOID"..
So right now, they are impatient.
Try explaining to your kids (if you were the salesman) you cant buy them christmas presents, while another guy is hunting around for a corvette, looking to buy one in another state, and telling you he will "Think about it."
You very well might have been the only chance he had at a paycheck..
Not that that should make you obligated, but hopefully it puts it in perspective.
But they also need to provide top notch customer service if they want the sale. Being a d*ck or impatient in this market is stupid. It's a buyers market right now....
It is obvious to me that you are the one to blame..you are wasting lots of peoples time..they appear to negoiate with you but you keep looking for a better deal .. Just get you position straight and stop wasting your time and the time of those trying to accomadate you. If i were one of the sellers i would not want to deal with you and yes i would be very ticked off at you.. Don't look on this forum as a place to vent you misdirected anger....as you can see from this post I have NO sympathty for you ..only for those poor people that you deal with.

You can't blame him for looking for a better deal as long as it's competitive.
So you didn't like his style and someone else wanted the car before you commited. BFD...
If you know your job, you don't **** off the customer before they get into the dealership
Get them in, let them see the car... Then go work... If you do it right, you get them in without offending them.

You're funny.
Clearly, you did not read my post at all.
Let me repeat myself. I am NOT upset because of negoiations. I am upset because of his TONE of voice and ATTITUDE. It has nothing to do with prices.
Please read people's post thoroughly before making childish comments.
And I updated everyone. He called back hours later, with a NICE tone of voice, and told me car was sold. He even said "nice to meet you, Kai" at the end. His attitude was 180 degrees opposite.
What I am guessing is that earlier it was his tactic to try to pressure me into buying. Obviously, it didn't work. But maybe it worked on this buyer.
In Illinois you will pay taxes when registering the car.
But not the same percentage as from dealer. You can check the tax forms. I think it's RUT-25 and RUT-50. They tell you exactly what amount you pay, they have a little table showing the different taxes for different years/prices.
So you didn't like his style and someone else wanted the car before you commited. BFD...
Again, nothing to do with who buys the car. I talked to another dealership who sold one to another guy. I have no problem. This is business. I offer X, you accept X. I offer X, you want Y, then we end the deal. No one should get mad at anyone for this. This is fair capitalism.
Here's a nice cold beer for everyone............you have vented, now lets move on and good luck with finding the car that you want at the price that you want to pay.

Oh, I'm not really mad now. At least he cared enough to follow up and talked with manner now. That's enough for me. Not like I'm going to hunt him down.
I think his saying "I have someone else wanting the car" was a scare tactic. Luckily, someone probably did come in later and buy the car. He got some commission and decided to call and apologize to you.
Yup, times out there do suck and many are on edge. There is a reason you didn't get this Vette. A better one will come along.
Have you tried autotrader.com? Great resource for finding Vettes in your area.

Good luck!
I found a nice one. I think a couple nice forum members said they might be able to check it out. It's cheaper than this one that was sold.
Thanks. I check every source. I have a good idea what good prices are.

You're right - even in these hard times there is no excuse for a salesperson or a sales manager to treat you badly. The solution is simple though - they lose a potential sale and you move on to other cars for sale. Hope you find one that meets your approval and is within your budget.

Thanks! There are many of them, actually. The problem is, my work schedule doesn't allow me to take days off. I can't fly out and check the cars out.
The dealer I mentioned isn't overpricing me. I never once mentioned they were trying to rip me off. It was within my budget. I just had problems with customer service. Their car sold, because it was priced right.
haha. It's alright. He "indirectly" apologized by changing his attitude and said nice things to me. I'll forgive the dealership (as in, if I ever see another car there, I'll still consider them).
I don't get mad at businesses for honest mistakes or something they cant help. my family owns business too, I see things from both sides. Attitude with customers (that are not rude) is simply not acceptable.
I happen to know the owner of the VW dealership in Orland Park. He is a reasonable customer oriented guy and would probably appreciate hearing about your experience. PM me if you want his name and number.
That's the problem though. I never told him I'm NOT buying from him. I wanna check out the one in GA first. That's my right as a customer. Heck, I don't have to buy anything I don't want to.
I also disagree about his motive for the attitude. My family is business owner as well. I see things from both sides of the picture. Our business, for obvious reasons, has also lost a lot of revenue per month. We don't take it out on customers. It's common sense. What do the customers owe you? Nothing.
As I stated, another dealershiper gave me time to think. Sure, their car was sold to someone else, but they never gave me an attitude about buying it. They offered me their then-current value, and said if they lower it any, they'll let me know. That's how you do business. Even if we don't make a deal, you smile and walk away. You don't rip off your sheep mask and show your wolf face.
I do understand what you're saying, but I don't feel sorry for him if he loses his job for lack of sales. It's not the first time I've had bad experiences with these managers at big dealers. Everyone has to make money, but these guys take it to a different level.
I would never give a (potential) customer an attitude like that. Lots of people are stressing now but I deal with the same sheit and dont act like a jackass so why should others?
