Default shaking during braking??

that was not meant to rhyme lol.

Anyways i have been very pleased with my 02Z since i got several months ago. there is only one issue, the steering wheel and shift **** shake pretty hard during braking from high speeds. When braking below 70 mph there does not seem like much shake at all, but the higher the speeds...the more it shakes...is this normal??

the car has had an accident before but it did not show up on the carfax so i have no clue what kind of damage has been done. the car feels fine at 160+ mph (on a road course) but when braking at that high speed the car feels like its going to fall apart....what gives?!

Warped rotors?

Easy and inexpensive replacement part, you can buy them for @$30 each at NAPA

that might the ABS working like it should.

Most ppl dont know what ABS feels like, which is a pulsating of the brake pistions.

If your doing those events, time to change brake pads, DOT 4 brake fluid and new rotors.

The other thing is if you have a stock alignment, and your running those higher speeds, the car will also shake some what under braking

Need an aggressive alignment for the track driving.

How old are the tires? if the tires are more then two years old, they will not brake well from those speeds. No matter how few miles are on them.

So a few things to look at:

New brake pads, brake fluid, and rotors
tires.
alignment

Good Luck

thanks guys thats what i thought is that the rotors are probably warped. Will have them checked out at the shop

I know its not the abs because the car shakes during LIGHT braking at those high speeds, its not like im slamming the brakes at 150. its light braking.

you don't need a shop to check them, just look for dime sized dark (usually blue) spots on them. If you have them and a shakey wheel and brake pedal then you have warped rotors. The dark spots are where the rotor has gotten excessively hot and glazed or crystallized. Thats usually where the warping is and soon where cracks will start.

........ to a certain degree. While it is true that checking on the rotors can be blue, its not always the case. I have seen rotors that look fine until you mic them, then the truth comes out. It doesnt take much warpage to get a fairly nasty shudder at the pedal and through the seat of the pants. This seems to be especially true when braking at higher speeds.

Vibration can also be caused by buildup on the rotors. The rotors on our Impala started vibrating, and I was thinking I would have to true them up, until we were on a trip and a car pulled out on the highway forcing me to apply the brakes hard at highway speed. After that, the vibration was gone. Applying them normally at highway speed did nothing, but a hard application cured the problem.

I've also heard that putting the e-brake on while the rotors are hot (since they bite in to the rotor) will cause indentions and induce warping of the rotor.

i think this may be the issue, because i just checked all rotors and none show blue spots.

True in cases where the brake pads actually are the emergency brake. In our case, (C5), theres a small set of brake shoes that applies the E-brake to a drum cast into the back side of the rear rotors.

Now sitting in one spot with your foot on the brake after say coming down a long steep grade, or after some track use, will result in creating a hot spot on the rotor which can lead to warpage.
