I'm having the harmonic balancer replaced (as well as the belts that broke when it went out) on my 2000 C5. I'm trying to make peace with the $1100 groin punch by figuring out if there's anything else (relatively cheaply) that I can add or replace, performance-wise, while they have the thing disassembled. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance to the greatest sports car enthusiasts on Earth.

I had posted a querry about clanging and rattling on my 43K mile C5. No one had any direct answers. It turned out to be a harmonic balancer. Being replaced now for about half of what your paying by a corvette shop in Tampa. I had never heard of these going bad on C5's but apparently it is common.

There are other idler pulley's there that you might want to replace while it is apart - AC pulley idler etc.
Huge thing would be to do an UNDERDRIVE balancer and pulley's which'll give you some extra HP's
Also could do a Electric Water Pump and a Low Temp Thermostat too!
Hi-Flow Airbridge and or a CAI (My suggestion is to do a VARARAM )
A De-Screened MAF Housing
To top it off get a handheld tuner and adjust the fan on/off temps to take advantage of anything you do to make extra HP and TQ or get a DYNO tune which will net some good results
Ported TB would be good too, but can be done later
While the balancer is off, go ahead and have a split-timing chain cover installed. That way, if you ever want a cam, you won't have to pull the rack and the balancer! Also, why not replace the oil pump with a high-volume pump while its off too?
