You dont have to use a spacer but the rear offset will cause the rim to kick in a little and it looks dumb. In addition guys who say they have no problems are right. No noticeable problem until you de-mount the tire and look up on the inner wheel well for scuffs!
To counteract the difference in offset your looking at a spacer needed between 1/4inch and 1/2 inch. rears only.
If you goto the 1 inch there is a chance the tire will kickup rocks on your paint.
Too be on the safe side. Id order the spacers. You wouldnt notice the rubbing till you put load onto the suspension going over bumps.
spacers are actually not the safest things to use. Might aswell replace with adapters and stronger studs.
1/4" spacer is about the most you really want to use if you do. You want to keep the load closest to the hub and not have an additional stress point in the center of the lug bolt. You can snap them in half.

Good luck
i am glad to know that we now have an official authority on what looks dumb on our c-5 corvettes. Look a the corvettes competition ,starting with a dodge viper. Many of them do not have wheels and tires exactly flush with the fender lips.
I recently passed up a great deal on some chromed C6 factory five-spokes that were in great shape. The rears were wider than my current setup and the more I looked into it, the riskier it sounded. In particular, it sounded like I needed spacers in the rear BUT ALSO would need to install new, longer studs. Wasn't worth it to me when I know I can purchase other wheels that will fit right without modifications or compromising the strength of my studs....especially on the drive-wheels.
Oh also, I should have done a thorough reading and search. I just read that some grinding will be necessary to fit the wheels. I went with the 1 inch adapters instead of easy spacers. I wanted to fill in the wheel as close to the edge. I needed to grind down the factory studs. Ran out of time and will attack the studs another day.
At what size do the spacers get to large to be used with the stock studs and lug nuts? 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 or 3/4"
Thinking 1/2" may require a stud change. Pretty sure 3/4" would be the same set up as the 1" spacer.
Was thinking of going 3/8", 1/2" or maybe 3/4".
My C6 wheels are rubbing with the stock sized rubber. Barely, and only on the passenger side. I'll be ordering a pair of spacers after seeing the one pic of the tub worn through. Plus, I would like the rears pushed out a bit for looks.
Here's mine, with bad parking deck lighting and camera from the phone.

I run spacers with longer studs. Not sure of the width, theyre still a little tucked for my taste. I would go with 1" adapters if I were to do it again.
The front C6 rims have the same exact offset as the C5 factory rims.
The rear C6 rims are a slightly different offset than the factory C5 rims. Although most people bolt them up with no problems, they do sit more inward than the C5 factory rims. There's been some reports of slight tire rubbing on the inward fenderwell.
When I did this mod, I went with 1/4" spacers on the rears. Although it didn't look like the C6 rims/tires would rub on my 2002, I used spacers for more a cosmetic reason (in an attempt to eliminate the "inward sitting" apperance of the C6 rear rims on a C5).
I was told by more than one expert that 1/4" spacers were fine - and that I could still use the factory lug nuts. But anymore than 1/4" and I'd have to either go with special lugnuts or replace the original studs with longer ones.
Oh, and I don't think the C6 TPS will work with the C5 system. I received my C6 rims with the TPS removed, so I just ordered all new C5 TPS's since my original ones were 7 years old.
