I ran a slalom course with the vette last weekend, and like a dumba$$, I caught a cone with the right front fender. Now I have some black marks from the cone. What is the best way to get this off of the car?
I've always had good luck with turtle wax "clear coat polish". It's mildly abrasive, so just use a little on a wet rag. It's taken a lot of junk of people's cars I've used it on. Comes in a green can and runs about 2 bucks.
I'd try a clay bar and if that doesn't work, then I'd either buy or borrow a random orbital buffer and remove it using some paint cleaner or scratch remover.
You could also try a applying a scratch remover by hand like Meguiar's Scratch X, machine will obviously work better. Don't worry a random orbital buffer won't damage you paint.
I've had good luck with Meguiars Paint Cleaner when applied with a buffer, but there are many paint safe products out there you can try.

I would use 3M rubbing compound (not any other brand rubbing compound; it has to say safe for clearcoat on it) it is equivalent to 1500 grade sand paper. works like a charm for minor scuffs. just make sure you wax afterwards.
