I want to replace the audio head in my '01 C5 Z06 with one that will accept the Ipod dock and display/control all Ipod functions. Who has been down this road and knows what works best. Don't care about XM or Bluetooth. Don't need to improve the speakers/sound. Just want to play 8 zillion songs out of Ipod's library.
I'd appreciate everyone's opinion on best way to do this.

Many thanks, bma2
Well I run the Pioneer AVIC F90BT for around $750.00 its does everything you need and some. Pioneers IPOD integration is the bomb plus there is a ton of Firmware hacks you can do to really trick out your unit. I dont see that kind of flexibility from other manufactures IE Kenwood, Alpine, Clarion ect.
We could put together a Double Din kit for you like this one. PM us if your interested.
I would recommend getting an IPOD 2 Car. You will not be able to display song names on the stock stereo but you can completely control the IPOD through the stereo.
This route would probably be the least expensive and would still have excellent sound quality.
Its difficult to say which works best because it's down to what functions you want from an after market head unit.
I went with the Pioneer AVIC N1 originally (I now have the X1R which is the Euro version. I think the unit is now replaced with a single DIN equivalent. You can still find N1, N2 and N3s on E Bay though.
I wanted flip out so I didn't have to cut the bezel. I also wanted nav software. It runs DVD, MP3 as well as radio and CD.
The Ipod fit with the AVIC is simple. Run a mic to audio lead, which you can pick up at Radio Shack, into the brain and you run from the AV selection. Decide on a mount and you're away. I went with a Pro Clip mount I already owned.
