Lets face it, they only make two different cars just in different trims.
The new Lambo (the 4 door sedan) that they're coming out with has regular style doors.
The vertical doors are a symbol of lamborghini, and the style has been ruined by these aftermarket kits that are being sold.
None of this really matters. If you like the style just buy it, you've already found a place that sells it.. soo get 'er dun!
Vertical door conversions are never a good idea because of the way a swing out door is designed. The concept works on the Murcielago/Diablo/Countach because the hinge is, in fact, mounted right on top of the front fender. In a vertical door kit, your doors have to swing on two different axes. It has to come out to clear the body and then up. This is inherently a poor design.
I Think the lambo doors belong on lambos. They look good, but are now over done. You see them on almost any car at your weekly car show now. The fact that they've made it on to Spike TV powerblock should be an idication that you shouldn't do it.
If you are into "showing" your car, I would do it. Or go for the Koenigsegg type door. I feel like these hinges are less used and look a little better.
My .02 I think I would rather spend the money elsewhere on the car.
and yes lambo did put the doors on vertically to look cool but it was also done so that such a wide car with long doors and an oddly shaped cockpit was easy to get in and out of in a parking lot. and the vette is fine with the doors the way theyt are. And if you put them on your car you will always have problems with the door for the rest of the life of the car. when i worked at lambo we had a hard time maintaining the doors on all lambos and they came that way from the factory.
Not that this is relevant or anything but I read about a guy that flipped his murcielago and it caught on fire. long story short, the guy burned alive because he couldn't get the door open.
so i guess there's another reason not to do it... unless you want to flip your car and die.. idk that's your business. lol
With the Lambo door conversions you must first open the door part way out the conventional way and then the door swings up. It has to first clear the body. Lamborghinis have the door opening specifically designed to clear and pivot straight up. Plus, the real doors go up almost completely vertical. Aftermarket kits don't pivot the door high enough, maybe about 45-50 degrees up. From what I've seen on a kid's Honda, they actually make it harder to get in and out. The door is in your way. Aside from the inconvenience, I think the whole thing just looks dumb.
i just realized i can put the 2 grand i would invest in something like this to make my car go faster instead, i think thats what im going to do...
Excellent choice...better seats, shifter, or roll cage are also good ways to go...
I wouldn't go for any kind of doors that'll be hell to open in a rollover anyways...there is always a fire suppression system when the budget allows...
Personally, I went for speed, then shifter and now I think seats and a roll cage will be a good step up...better fire suppression is up there though...
There's form and then there's function...I'm glad you're going for function...
i DONT want it to be "flashy" or "cool", i have no desire to put this car in a car show
the fact is im a very tall guy and its a big pain in the *** for me to get in and out of my car, the lambo doors would actually help me out....
I say it's your car and your money. I think lambo doors are cool - period. It just amazes me that there are fools out there who think they have the right to dictate what you do (or don't do) to your own car. I've tinted my windows, swapped out all lights for LEDs, wired in an adapter for my iPod, added homelink, added heated seats, bought GY EMT M&S tires mounted on wagon wheels so I can drive it in the winter, etc. None of these changes makes the car faster or stop quicker - I did them because I thought they were neat, and it endears the car to me that much more.
So I say screw the self righteous bastards and do what you want with your car. And above all else, have fun with it.
